Today, Intel announced the Intel RealSense lidar camera L515, the world's smallest and most power-efficient, high-resolution lidar that captures millions of depth points per second. Designed with proprietary technology that creates entirely new ways to incorporate lidar into smart devices to perceive the world in 3D, the L515 provides high-quality performance and millimeter accuracy to products that require vision capabilities.

"Intel RealSense technology is used to develop products that enrich people's lives by enabling machines and devices to perceive the world in 3D. With the L515 depth camera, we are excited to bring high-resolution lidar performance to markets previously inaccessible to this technology." -Sagi BenMoshe, corporate vice president, Intel RealSense Group

The Intel RealSense lidar camera L515 is priced at $349 and available for pre-order today.

This type of technology will be beneficial to many industries in my opinion to include health care.

Hrrrm, would be interesting to see how the tech as improved since the Microsoft Kinect first implemented things like that in the consumer market. Does it have the resolution to replace an industrial lidar scanner? If so, I know that I want for Christmas. I have some stuff I want to 3D point cloud scan.

I wonder how well this will work for 3D printing.

I kind of wish that we would see a new Kinect sensor for the next generation of Xbox. I thought the technology was good for getting people off the sofa and moving.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

"Redefines Computer Vision"  - then maybe they should use it to "see" into the future of their chip business, for what they need to do better ???

Not for CAD .... 3D parts
         - Depth error average at 1m distance from camera is <5mm*
         - Depth error std deviation at 1m distance from camera is 2.5mm*
         - *at 95% reflectivity

    supported range of 0.25m – 9m

resolution of 1024 x 768 at 30 frames per second

23 million accurate depth points per second

Nice specs for only $349 ... software ?
