I am looking at building a new gaming PC for myself and I found the CPU I want to use, the Intel i7-8086K. I always come to EVGA for most of my hardware but I am confused a bit... The Intel site says the CPU wants DDR4-2666 while the motherboard (z370 series) says DDR4-4133+ ... Does this mean the motherboard can use that range but the CPU will be most effecient with the -2666?

On a related note I have a set of 128GB of CORSAIR Dominator Platinum DDR4-3200MHz .. If the Motherboard's support trumps the CPU's support, can I split this RAM in half and use 64GB with one of the z370 boards?? (Only reason I asked is pcpartspicker implied it was incompatible for other reasons than just the number of slots it would take).

Cheers,

2666 MHz is the highest Intel recommends/supports. Anything higher than 2666 MHz is considered overclocking. 4133+ on the board means the board can support up to that if the cpu is willing to allow your ram to run that high. Splitting the ram should be just fine.

The 'CPU is willing' means 'you have to try it out and see if it actually works' right?

True, you just seek up on the frequency while monitoring the temps on both CPU and Memory.  Then if it boots and runs stable, your good to go.
