Probably a leak of the i7-8700 with 6 cores. Only time will tell if Intel decides to freeze or lower the price compared to last year's model. AMD's CPUs have accelerated Intel's CPU manufacturing.

It's great news for owners of Z170 Classified-K and Z270 Classified-K because Intel Coffee Lake is compatible with LGA1151.

This will be excellent upgrade from owners of Kaby Lake.
I suggest to use that change and life time of their platform will be extended on very long time.

From other side I don't know how Intel could influence on AMD profit. Their profit will grow and position will be stronger no matter Intel do now.
Many people are sick of Intel's cutting features and high prices and now with their Xtreme platform, proud of all enthusiasts they decide to joke with thermal paste and less PCI-E lanes for model produced for most people. i7-7820X should be directly Intel's answer on Ryzen 7.
And only with hope that people forgot that AMD's answer on Skylake-X will arrive very soon. But they decide to joke with direct competitor to 1800X.
Why, because it's 10% better and that give them chance to cut everything else.
He cost 750euro on some places in East Europe, that's almost price of Threadripper with 12 cores and 60 or 64 PCI-E lanes.

Intel i9-7900X and he is only OK upgrade from X99 chipset but he is unreachable to most people, he cost 1000-1100 euro and he is expensive even for most people in countries where economic situation is great.  Why I say only OK upgrade is i9-7900X, because only flaw is thermal paste, i7-7820X is inferior to i7-6900K with thermal paste and PCI-E lanes. Two very important things for overclockers and enthusiasts.
Deliding is not just like that, we will buy tool, we don't care for warranty for expensive processor and our CPU will become as soldered.
I estimate that CPU overclocked to some frequency closer to max 4.6-4.7-4.8 GHz for Skylake-X or 4.5GHz for Broadwell-X with 1.350-1.400V on custom loop difference between best thermal paste and CPU delided by professionals are 10C higher than soldered processor under full load.
OK improvement in idle and under load is obvious compare to Intel's thermal paste, but if you want to push CPU to the max and heat transfer become really important and you have expensive watercooling ready to cooldown CPU with increased voltage to safe point you will have 10C higher temps with paste than soldered, maybe even more and you will be without warranty. If you want to keep warranty temps will be over 20C higher than soldered model.

It looks like a nice upgrade for 1151 users if this is true.

There is a rumor about the i7-8700K using socket 1151-v2. Guess we will have to wait and see.
