https://videocardz.com/82007/intel-core-i9-10900x-cascade-lake-x-hedt-cpu-spotted With its 10th generation Core X "Cascade Lake-X" HEDT processor series, Intel will not bother designing models with single-digit core-counts. The series is likely to start at 10 cores with the Core i9-10900X. This 10-core/20-thread processor features a quad-channel DDR4 memory interface, and comes with clock speeds of 3.70 GHz base, a 200 MHz speed-bump over the Core i9-9900X. The chip retains the mesh interconnect design and cache hierarchy of Intel's HEDT processors since "Skylake-X," with 1 MB of dedicated L2 cache per core, and 19.3 MB of shared L3 cache. Geekbench tests run on the chip show it to perform roughly on par with the i9-9900X, with the 200 MHz speed-bump expected to marginally improve multi-threaded performance. Where the "Cascade Lake-X" silicon is expected to one-up "Skylake-X" is its support for DLBoost, an on-die fixed function hardware that multiplies matrices, improving AI DNN building and training; and pricing. Intel is expected to price its next-generation HEDT processors aggressively, to nearly double cores-per-Dollar. In my personal opinion this looks like nothing more than a speed bump. It should be interesting though to see how Intel prices these new cpus.

PCI-E, and PCI-E... and again P C I - E Interface. What you have Intel, new or obsolete, simple like that. I don't want to my OS drive work on half speed as OS Drive on AMD platform for year after I pay more then 1500$ for CPU-Motherboard-Memory. Number of cores mean nothing. Give me 10 cores CPU to work with all cores on 4.8GHz easy HT Enabled with nice L3 Cache, PCI-E 4.0 Interface and I will pay him more then AMD/Intel 16 cores. Somehow I feel nice, 5 years after I bought my X99 platform Intel still sell platform where OS drive work on same speed as mine, with same Memory Controller and provide me space necessary to save more money when true interesting product become available. No everything depend of strength of motherboards because we enter in period when X99 motherboards are 4-5 years old. Maybe I will even drop frequency of CPU to avoid problems because interesting products are not even on horizon. If I collect 1500 euro and platform with DDR5 and PCI-E 5.0, USB 4.0 is still not available 2021 I will buy new monitor for 500-600 euro.

Maybe Intel think I'm like Apple, I could sell 12MP Cam while other sell 24 example...

What peripharals do you have that are able to saturate PCIE3.0? Asking as I do have the most expensive Zen2 platform (Xtreme with 3900X) and a Gen4 MP600 and it gets beaten by my old 970PRO as an OS drive. Not to mention I'm running out of lanes on X570. The only PCIE4.0 GPU is the Navi but that is 'because we can' - it won't even saturate 3.0 x16 fully. A matured 12Mpix with good lens would still beat the crap out of a 24/48mpix with a tiny phone lens, for example.

All that matters now is pricing, if Comet Lake flagship is a 10-core, presumably at 9900K's MSRP, then I don't foresee a cheaper 10-core HEDT to displace it, even though they've done it before. The premium to have it on a cheaper platform.

Pricing will tell, if Intel is looking to counter AMD offerings Intel launches this Month, their slide (in OP link) seems to indicate Intel - thinks the have the best bang for the $

Refresh of a refreshed refresh, I didn't see new socket mentioned anywhere but that wouldn't surprise me either.

Q1 2020 will see a new mainstream socket, LGA1200. Cascade Lake-X is still LGA2066/X299 and 9900KS is just a binned 9900K.
