Intel's 6-core "Coffee Lake" die was essentially a "Kaby Lake" die with two extra cores, and no physical changes to other components, such as iGPU or uncore. With its new 8-core "Coffee Lake" Refresh silicon, Intel has turned its attention to not just increasing the core-count, but also improving the processor's integrated memory controller. That means 128GB of memory can be supported. I personally don't understand why Intel thinks this is important because memory prices are very high right now. Most gamers have 16, 32, or 64GB of memory. That is more than enough.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Designers and other industries will be using these too and it's perfectly understandable about the RAM limit increase. Gamers won't be the only ones using them.

RAM prices are likely to be high for a while longer till some new Chinese foundries come to production
