Impressive, just like RTX cards, but I'm scratching my head at Intel and Nvidia prices.

Thanks for all the Video links kram36 Can you summarize the information in a couple of lines ? Give your impression: OK, cost more than AMD (no surprise there) (Intel going for max profit, no surprise on launch) is performance up ?

It's what you would expect. Fast, but looses in the value proposition from AMD. It's the fastest gaming processor available (9900K) and all chips hit 5.2GHZ on all cores....

Sure, 9900K beats the 2700X from 14% to 20% at stock speeds. 2700X is cheaper then the 9900K by around 43%. If you want the best, it's going to cost you a pretty penny.

Nearly all of the video reviews really sock it to Intel for CPU pricing.

Still Nice to see the New i9 less than 1/2 of previous +$1000 i9 CPUs --> even if this one has less cores ~ 33% to 40% less per Core
-- New i9 9900K eight-Core retail - $530 - per-core = $66.25 ---> Not @ Micro Center (yet) If it is actually $479 MSRP -- per-core = $59.88 -- i9-7960X Sixteen-Core retail - $1,500 - per-core = $93.75 ($1300 @ Micro Center) -- i9-7980XE Eighteen-Core retail - $1,880 - per-core = $104.44 ($1700 @ Micro Center) Because MHz is still King & Not Core count for consumer software & games ----> I think it could represents a good value to some people Sure it would be nice if it was cheaper

As far as cost is concerned you can buy an AMD 2700X CPU and motherboard for the price of the i9 9900K.

I’m in the fence. I figure I could sell my 8086k and this would cost a couple hundred bucks. Not sure I’d see a difference at all though.

You can buy an 8700K and motherboard for the cost of a 9900K, but you're still not getting the performance of the 9900K with either option. Some will still spend the extra to get the better performing product.

Depends, if you change out the motherboard, you may have to reactivate Windows. If you just change out the cpu, it shouldn't be an issue. If you have a retail key reactivation should be no issue, even the non retail key usually allows one or two reactivations without an issue.

I changed my motherboard and cpu recently due to my old cpu dying and i just had to re enter my win10 code. I didn't have to format or reinstall windows it just booted up like everything was normal, for my old setup I had a 6900k cpu. I did buy a pro copy of windows 10 a few years ago instead of doing a free upgrade back when it was offered though.

If currently Win 10 Retail = No, you can reactivate If currently Win 10 OEM = Yes, by the terms of MS, you'll need to buy again ...... You can try an ask MS .... they do not have to reactivate for OEM

not bad, but its not 3400hzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz As per the review....it doesnt make sense to buy a CPU for $500 if it performs almost identical to the Ryzen half its value on 2160p resolution

Pretty sure as for G.Skill Flare X memory, the top speed is 3200MHzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. If all you do is game at 2160p and you have a gpu strong enough to push that resolution, then 2700X would be the cpu for you. However you may need to replace the 2700X long before the 9900K for games that come out of that take advantage of the processor's full potential.

Well that's because this CPU is actually an i7, NOT an i9. Intel decided to segment the market in such a way that the i9's are now the only CPU's with hyperthreading, thereby making the i7's now i5's. They had to do something to protect their failed x299 platform, and this was it. Pretty (insert random curse) stupid.

And the nice thing about that, is you will be able to do just that. Replace only the 2700x. You won't be forced to buy a new board and chip, like you would with the Intel platform, IF you need to replace it. But let's face it, at 4k, the video card is the deciding factor, and has been for the few generations. I mean even the 1700 scores the same as the 2700x in 4k. Even if we go back to Skylake, which is now 3 generations behind, it scores within a margin of error of the 2700x in 4k, albeit, lower than the 2700x.

You will get 5 years out of the 9900K easily and never have to spend any extra money replacing the cpu By then we will be on DDR5 memory and when a person decides to upgrade a new motherboard will be needed with AMD or Intel.

Yea I’ve decided no go for now anyway. I mean why? Doom is running at 200fps. What... I need 220 FPS? Which wouldn’t happen anyway....

kram36 If all you do is game at 2160p and you have a gpu strong enough to push that resolution, then 2700X would be the cpu for you. However you may need to replace the 2700X long before the 9900K for games that come out of that take advantage of the processor's full potential.
I could not have said that better myself. Everyone is so concerned with motherboards and chipsets, but are you really going to upgrade anytime soon if you do purchase the 9900k? I got 7 years out of my 2500k...
