So the new CPUs will only work with 300 series chipsets. I personally believe that will anger many users who bought 200 series chipset motherboards this year. Such an announcement was rumored but is now confirmed by the CPU processor packaging.

This is nothing new, and mot unexpected. The only unexpected portion is the timeline. Everyone knows that Intel only allows two chipsets per line before they force the upgrade, so acting shocked by the obvious update on motherboard and chipset is just plain silly at this point. If people are upset, they need to stop blogging about it and start thinking with their wallet, but since they prefer to blog and spend, their cries go unnoticed.

It's very bad news that people could not use Z170 and Z270 motherboards for new i5 and i7.
Intel want to people use Maximus 10 for Coffee Lake, and some Kaby Lake refresh.
It's bad moment for investing money in Intel platform, whole 2017.
Intel made two huge mistakes in 2017 and 3rd small.
Thermal paste on X299, and compatibility of Coffee Lake with Z270, price of Skylake-X.
From other side AMD only nicely surprised people.

^this. Nothing new here, so I don't get why people are surprised.  I'll probably wait until lower end threadripper comes out before I make my decision to go with AMD or Intel for coffee lake.

If people have the i7-7700k there will be little reason to upgrade anyway other than having the newest flavor of the month.

yeah.. thats the new era for you...  milking the pocket of consumers to the last penny

i payed 360€ for my 6700K last year in July..-.. i am happy with it i confess but it was 50 to 70 € over the correct price.

a year later and this happens. people now have to buy new mobos to support this new cpu.
and don't fool yourselves.. mobo brands are also behind this tactic, intel is not alone in this practice.
