In response to the current crisis regarding the expansion of loot crate economies and concerns about unregulated online gambling. There are many governments investigating loot crates and maybe this type of oversight is badly needed.

I only have a problem with the aspect of charging people 'real money'  to obtain them , instead of just in game time or events/ actions.

I don't mind if they charge a reasonable price for the items, just don't make it where people have to gamble $$$ for the chance to get the item/skin they want. Give people a chance to earn the items in-game by playing or from achievement type event too. People that can't spend as much time playing, they can buy the items out right for a reasonable price.

I find Valve loot crate system to be the worst. People are spending millions on keys to gamble on getting the skins they want.

Can't wait until Valve is demolished for letting kids gamble.

It's going to be so glorious and they'll have to make games again.

I don't have a problem with loot boxes as long as it's purely cosmetic and you can also gain them via playing the game and not just real money.

Even if loot boxes get taken out by legal action I wouldn't be surprised if the game industry came up with a different more scummier way to make money.

I have to agree with you since this is what we saw with single player games requiring an online connection to launch them for copy protection.  It's also an industry that cares a lot about making a profit so loot systems are here to stay.

My guess is we will see something like loot boxes being 100% earned by gameplay but for $10 you can buy a 20% increase to XP gain. At $50 you earn loot boxes twice as fast as basic players. It gives a benefit that is not gambling while giving a big increase to those who spend money for a bonus. Of course you don't limit how much someone can spend so if someone wants to spend $300 on a game they can earn loot boxes 600% faster.
