https://www.dsogaming.com/news/bethesda-will-use-an-upgraded-version-of-the-creation-engine-for-the-elder-scrolls-6-and-starfield/

Bethesda Softworks has been betting hard on its Creation Engine to take them through multiple installments in some of the biggest AAA game releases players usually see, in the form of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. And even as the company has announced their intention to explore another new universe in the still mysterious Starfield, it seems the company only knows of one way to do so: their Creation engine.  Bethesda is looking to the Creation engine to take them through to the next-generation Starfield game means that the company will again invest in incremental upgrades. However in my personal opinion they need to start working on a new engine.

What they need to do is say screw it to that stupid clause that Zenimax and iD Software came up with that prevents the forced use of iD Tech in non-iD Software games and start using the engine. I get why they came up with the clause in the beginning but seeing as how BethSoft keeps using the Gamebryo\Creation engine it's time things change.

The NIF 3d model format is like 20 years old now. Donno what they're thinking by still using such legacy work.

It's cause of cost. By reusing the Gamebyro/Creation Engine they can keep development cost way down. Same thing with the CoD series reusing the older iD Tech engines still and also why Source Engine is still built off of old code from the late 90s and early 2000s. In fact much of the code in WoW is legacy Warcraft III code and it's pretty obvious by this point Guild Wars 2 is using a heavily updated Guild Wars 1 engine. So yea when it comes to saving money many game companies end up reusing older engine code, even in newer titles.

Assembly line game design. Essentially the same game just different art and sound assets. This is why people think games feel the same. There is ZERO incentive to push new tech and create something new when you can simply reuse and slightly adjust game engines for decades. It's what is plaguing everything coming from EA and many game "developers" simply outsource most of the tech behind their games anyway meaning what they really do is just package art and sound for a quick return.

Pretty much. Oh a perfectly great example of a bad game development decision will ALWAYS be the one with SWTOR. It was the first MMO in history to have the highest budget ever for the voice acting HOWEVER it came at a cost when they bought out the licensing rights to a game engine that was in alpha at the time. It's why the game still looks and runs like crap to this day. Oh the main reason Bioware bought out the engine is because the engine developers claimed that it could allow for Bioware to make changes and updates to SWTOR while still being live and not having to shutdown the servers. Yet not ONCE did they ever do that.

Maybe they have an inter-company  bet  w/ the  COD guys on who can use the same engine for the longest time period and still get people to buy....

IMHO ... it's the physics issues ,  frame rate speed , texture limitations and  view distance problems that should easily have convinced them it's past time for a new engine.

FO76 is so copypasta with art assets that I donno what to make of it. It's like a DLC for FO4 but with online capability and really crappy storyline design. It's almost like Bethesda one day said "Gee, how can we repackage Skyrim and Fallout 4 yet again and sell it full price and get away with it? The gamers revolted when we did that with VR, so we at least need to make a new map."

The problem is, FO76 has no replay value. There is no sense of importance in the online aspect of the game and I've never felt the need to talk to another person in the game let alone engage them in gameplay. My only experience with PvP so far was getting griefed the first day of release by a beta player 20 levels higher than me tricking me into engaging them at one of the respawn points.
