Yep. It's getting really hard to defend EVGA and any of their staff. I have praised their company for years, but right now I feel like I'm in an abusive relationship but I keep blocking out their abuse to cope and swear to other people that EVGA is a great company. I swear!

I agree, at the very least follow what other large scale selling companies have been doing for literally years.  The item is in your cart, it's yours for X number of minutes, if you can't complete checkout within that number of minutes, THEN release the card for someone else.   This is mass demand selling 101.  Ticket selling companies have had this simple queue system for over a decade.

I have one in my cart, Why not implement a system so if it's in your cart you have 1 hour to check out with it? after that it expires and is put back into the stock pool....

I can't say I've ever seen that happen, even on extremely popular music concert tickets. That's not to say it doesn't, but I've never personally seen it.

In the end, they don't care.  They are selling more than they can make.  As long as it appears they are trying, they will continue to sell.  EVGA can easily see which users have items in the carts, how long we have been registered, what other EVGA products we've bought, and make good on this.  More FTW3 will come, we should be the first to get them.  But they won't.. someone else will easily buy them.

True.  I remember hearing a story at one of the custom build PC companies where a bunch of people build custom rigs 24 hours prior w/out the GPU and once the 30 series was released, they just added the GPU and checked out.

Not an hour, there are two industry standard times for cart queues.  5 minutes and 20 minutes depending on the type of sale.
 
Given the eVGA site struggles to handle the load, it should be 20 minutes.  That's more than enough time for anyone who has one in their cart to complete, while anyone trying will get an out of stock message and back off their tries some reducing load for those trying to complete.  The checkout flow for card processing should also be offloaded to a different server pool that you can only get to if you have one in your cart, so it isn't a gate to completing the purchase.  This is simple stuff.

Sadly with how slow the site runs 20min is almost not enough. I had one in my cart for over 30 minutes. Every time the site would load a new page in the progression it would crash meaning I would need to restart from checkout... I don't think even half of this was real people at all. I was actually ahead of Jacob saying anything on twitter by like a minute and still couldn't get a damn thing

I'm not even shopping direct from evga and I still agree. 
 
I don't understand this, every single thing I've gotten from Ticketmaster has been like this for ages. Usually 5 minutes, which due to site crashes we could easily increase a bit. Not only that, this should help the site crashes. You will get that initial dump on the site then a few will get through and add to cart, after that it will then be out of stock and no more thrashing of the site. Will some trickle back into stock due to timing out, sure but this is still a way better system then what currently exists. 
 
Look I love my evga cards, but this is not something that I can defend when there are options to fix, or at least help deal with the issues on releases like these.

The dirty bot already had it in his cart before you even clicked the add to cart button. So even of they were able to reserve a unit for 10-mins to allow you to finish the transaction, You wouldn't even be able to get to that step because they would be all be reserved and gone in seconds.

You can't rely on that system in these early days. Even without bot/scripts, by the time you got notified via email, they would all be gone.
