I just got the titan x last week since I fig. the 980ti would be around $800 but I am going to return mine back to microcenter and pick up the ti instead.

I'm doing the same thing. I have no reason to keep the Titan X at this price. Used it for 8 days, but it's going back as soon as Microcenter's 980Ti stock is up.

Same here. Mine is 7 days old and I also bought mine from Micro Center. What is the return policy? I thought I recalled hearing something about 14 days to return the item?

I'm almost certain it's 30 days for GPUs.

It's 14 days.

Yeah, no, not according to my receipt it's not.

Whelp, I think I might be hosed. For some reason I tossed the antistatic bag that the card came in and I NEVER toss stuff like that. My 360 still has all of it's original manuals and styrofoam. This does not bode well.

NV is really pissing on their high-roller customers who are in a higher financial position than the people who buy 980s or Ti's.  The "12GB of VRAM" doesn't matter because anyone could buy a Ti, sell it in a year when the next gen comes out with 8GB VRAM, and still not have lost $350 in the process.

The double backstab is that there's going to be custom PCB versions of the Ti too that the X doesn't get at all.

Many of us told you guys this scenario, or something very similar, was gonna happen. You saw the specs of the X and knew that a TI was a very real possibility, which means that with the X maxing out everything in capability on the card, where was a ti to go if introduced?!?? Just less vram, that's it. Theres just no other option left. You guys buying these cards better put on your thinking caps this time and make sure you want to cause the next series will be dropping waaaayyy sooner than you think!! My guess would be November judging by whats happened in the past.

Yeah, only a few more months and I can retire my 980 for the next generation that will beat all of these cards...

I mean, it's not like the very earliest adopters didn't get to enjoy a beast of a card for 90+ days.... there is some value in that nobody seems to want to acknowledge.

Hell, I only had the card 8 days and it provided me a ton of enjoyment. Thankfully I'm still in the return window (this was planned), but still. Stop acting like NV hosed every Titan X buyer. They didn't.

Honestly, if I bought a Titan X then I would not return it. I would be very happy with the purchase. Sorry guys, The card is a beast. The price is not even going down with the release of the TI. The card has a whopping 12 GB of ram and is slightly faster, running slightly cooler.

People buying the most expensive videocard, and then whining when a more reasonably priced model comes out. That totally never happened before, ever. :D

This isn't new tech....its the Same friggin board as the TX with the end lobbed off of it. This is more along the lines of "you didn't really need the extra 6gigs of vrasm and we honestly didn't need to include the extras 6gigs, but thanks for the $800 extra guys!!!!" This is xbone level screw up IMO.

You guys are basing this all on 3dmark scores which doesn't reflect real gaming and other applications very well. I'm confident that the TITAN X is still better in certain areas but they have not been tested extensively by like Toms Hardware

......You sold a Titan X for $750 because the 980ti is nearly identical and then you are mad at NVIDIA? Makes perfect sense...Just learn from your mistakes man...

Ummm, there are several reviews out now with gaming benchmarks. Linus had most games within 1 or 2 fps.

How can you be mad if you can piss away $1k like that on a single video card? To add insult. You just blow it off not even caring taking a decent loss. So, you obviously have enough to keep playing the game.

Anyone, that has been around the industry for the past 3 years, knows that this is how Nvidia has been doing business. I purposefully skipped the Titan card knowing that the TI would be a MUCH better deal. Do you want the best deal? Wait till the first card of each architecture. I bought a 980 for just over 500 bucks and it was the top of the line... If I was concerned about money, I'd wait for the 1080... If that is such a thing... The next card after the 980ti.

I don't see what's the problem here. Nvidia did the same with the original Titan & GTX780, and later with Titan Black & GTX780 Ti and now with Titan X & GTX980 Ti. They do because this tactic gives them a good profit, and they'll do the same whit the next series of cards.

Yup, the answer is to stop buying the Titan cards if you don't like what they are doing. They are going, 500 for the top end card, then 1000, then 650... Get on the 500 dollar train and keep riding it.

Everyone should have seen this coming unless you are very new to PC tech, the same happened with Titan and 780/TI.

Time to get my 3rd and 4th Titan X for cheap now that people are selling them to get a tad slower 980 TI with less VRAM? :)

Don't feel too bad the 980TI will be replaced with something faster sooner or later...

The 780 was very close FPS in many games at 1440p to the original Titan. But you are correct, it was a tad slower. But when the 780Ti came out, it was faster and cheaper than the original Titan (which made nvidia come out with the Titan Black which I think sold poorly)

My only regret so far is buying the Titan X HC when it first came out. Card is just insanely unstable! Defaulted everything to stock and still getting crashes. Now with the newest driver just released The Witcher 3 is a stuttering mess! I obviously don't have another one to see if it's a card issue or software but it all started once I installed the card so that pretty much narrows it down.

I often wonder if it's a HC copper issue. My 780 Classy HC does the exact same thing. Only that card had a bad LN2 BIOS and the stock one isn't any better causing constant crashing. Out of curiosity, if I was to RMA my 780 Classy Hydro what would it be replaced with since I don't know what's a comparable card now? I don't know how they choose what cards equal value since I paid $700 for it so I would think it would be the 980 HC or higher am I right to assume that or no?

Yeah, the only cards that I have ever had trouble with are custom EVGA cards.

My 2 x Titan X's aren't EVGA, they are nvidia ref cards.  I got them from Nvidia Direct on opening day (no one else had any in stock on launch day).

I've been happy with them, but they don't overclock well.  I used EVGA Precision X (my previous pair of 980s were EVGA so I had access to Precision X still) and slid the power slider all the way to the max (110%).  During long session of heavy gaming (GTA V, The Witcher 3...) after about an hour I would often get a frozen black screen, though I could still hear the game sounds.  CTRL ALT DELTE wouldn't get me to the task manager either, I had to do a reboot.  Putting the power slider back to 100% solved the problem, but it took me a long time to figure out this was the culprit.

I don't know if my power supply (Corsair AX1200i) is kind of crapping out under heavy load (2 x Titan X's + 8 core 5960x, all over clocked of course) or if just the cards were unstable at 110% power?  But everything works fine as long as I don't OC the Titan X's

So the 980Ti seems to be the one to get right now over the Titan X from what people are saying but surely the Titan X is still beneficial and worth it for those who are running 4K or looking to go 4K.

I think that they are both great cards but there are two different groups of people they are catered too.

Just seems odd, why are others able to get insane clocks without even modifying BIOS? I can't go anywhere near my Core clock otherwise it crashes no matter what. Not like it matters since it crashes on stock clocks and voltages as well. Part of me thinks there's a lot of lemon Titan X's out there. Maybe it has something to do with memory on it who knows. Be curious to see if the 980TI has same issues with half the memory.
