My life has just been utter lately. I'm not going to bore you with the whole sob story, its similar to a lot of people, laid off due to covid, scratching to meet bills, etc. 
 
We got a windfall and I was really hoping I could get a new video card. I am running an EVGA 660 TI . It's sad I know, but its literally all I could afford. I was hoping to finally be able to upgrade it to something substantial today with a 3080, even if it was one of the lower clock 3080s, but no. Wasnt to be. Never saw it in stock, never got evga to load, newegg just kept telling me out of stock, it never flipped. I had notifications at newegg, evga, best buy, amazon, no emails from any retailer. I got up at 5 am my time specifically so I could be online and present to try and get the card, even set up autorefreshers.
 
Guess I keep using my card that literally can't run modern software. Thanks EVGA. I've been buying your products exclusively for almost 20 years now. motherboards, graphics cards, power supplies, etc. Guess I don't matter.

Don't despair, I've been there (quite literally). Things will get better.

While it's no 3080, would you be interested in a free 980 Ti? It's not EVGA, but it's free and it works, and it's a huge upgrade over a 660. PM me - I will cover shipping in the US.

Sorry you weren't able to get one.  I wasn't either.  My gaming rig has an EVGA 750ti in it thats starting to glitch out on me, so I understand the struggle.  But stop for a moment and be thankful that while you were having tight times, you did get that windfall.  Be appreciative of that, not everyone who's scraping by without work has been as luck as you in that regard.

Yes, the 980 Ti is Nvidia. I do recommend uninstalling the old Nvidia drivers before you install it, and then installing the latest from Nvidia. PM me if you do want it so I can get you set up. Click on my forum name, Profile Options (upper left), and then click on Send a Private Message.

Im confused, how is this EVGA's fault?   Sorry to be insensitive but this is probably one of the hottest releases ever and to think its EVGA's fault you missed buying one at launch with demand being what it is, is hilarious.  More hilarious you're painting it like that was the only batch of them ever and you're forever screwed because they didn't supply you with a card first. 
Be patient, sign up for email notifications for the incoming stock, maybe wait for a 3070 or 3060 if you're already having trouble with finances giving more time to save...

I don't think I would blame EVGA for something going on in someone's life, but for how the launch went they can be blamed. They knew what was coming and they didn't bother securing the site in any way. I wasn't even interested in the launch, just was curious how it would turn out. It was terrible. I'm around these forums quite often and all the usual people I see around here that had been talking about getting one at launch didnt get one. Haven't really heard of anyone getting one from EVGA site. Most of the people I have seen get a card were on Amazon EU. They definitely needed cloud flare or something.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but glad you got a windfall of cash. You must realize that these cards will be back in stock. Just because you didn't get one exactly at launch doesn't mean anything other than today was not the day. Almost no one gets one on launch day anymore. The good old days are long gone. More cards will come just be patient.

Like heres the comedy of errors for you if you'd like, cuz its literally hilarious if you are outside the situation.
 
I got laid off, filed for unemployment. Unemployment took literally months to go through. months. Finally they approved me! YAY! I was going to get all the back unemployment! double yay! I set up for it deposit into our bank account.
 
And nothing. no deposit. Waited a week. nothing.
 
Cant contact them, I have been trying for like 6 months without success. DES phone just rings. 
 
Well meanwhile we drain my savings, credit cards, etc. even overdraft our bank account to stay afloat. Then finally des cuts us a papercheck. not for everything, but for enough to get us back afloat. I go deposit the check, ask the bank if they might waive some overdraft fees, they tell me ok, they will, big help. lots of sighs of relief. Waiting on check to post to account, go to use card with minor balance. cards declined. contact bank. apparently in the interim between me depositing the check, and the check clearing, they wrote off the account to collections. but the check showed a positive balance, so they reversed that, but in doing all that they changed the account number and invalidated my card, so i had to resetup EVERYTHING. so we go back to bank, they assure me the accounts active and they are sending me a new card asap. but. the checks are going to be returned to us and we will have to redposit them. Then later in the day, we get a message another deposit was declined, so i go back to the bank, whups they say, they forgot to toggle something, but they did, and now great news, the previous checks will deposit after all and they wont be sending them back to me.
 
its like... cmon.
 
oh since i started typing this out we decided to swing by best buy just for the hell of it to see if they had any, i get up to the door, and the surliest employee ever is sitting there and he goes "we aint got any 38s or ps5s" and im like "excuse me what" "the geforce 3080? the ps5? we aint got any, so if you here for that, you might as well turn around"
 
like **** man, i appreciate the info but you cant find a better way to deliver it?

Yea but you're probably the 400th person he's had this conversation with, and considering he's probably making anywhere from $7 to $10 an hour... he's probably not thrilled with having to be the bearer of bad news to everyone who's coming to the store.

As a sysad for web hosting by trade, I cannot believe there was no captcha and no ddos protection / cdn. Like, I would have sites that were expecting 100,000 visitors for their big regional sale and they would outfit themselves better than evga, a multinational, did for a day on which millions would be hammering their site. And considering how fast newegg folded, I am astonished they remain up day to day. Are they running their site on highly modified woo commerce and a couple tin cans?

I think you should count your blessing and save that money. a new video card is NOT important.

What I noticed, is us old timers are not the ones complaining about a 'lack of loyalty' or 'what about me me me',  but are the ones giving back. This thread is sad, and personally there are far more deserving members than the complainer who started it. This is not about NEED, it is about want. I want to upgrade my 1080 Ti, I don't NEED to. You don't NEED to update to the top available tier, you just WANT to.  Just my two cents.  As a sysad, you would have noticed EVERY SITE, not just EVGA's market was wacked.  Why would you outfit your site for outlier peak demand?. Everyone is an expert...with no answer.
