Decided to roll the dice and showed up at best buy an hour before they opened, just to see if there would be physical stock even though their site said Online Only.
Had an interesting conversation with one of the few employees on the floor who is an actual PC gamer and was up to speed on the scalper situation. He spilled the beans. Apparently, when they (best buy employees) know stock is coming, the go-to move is to use a Twitch channel botting service (Falcodrin) to notify & snatch their own inventory of cards, so even if they DO have physical cards slated to go from the pallet to the shelf, it doesn't matter. They're autopurchased and set aside. By and for staff. And you will never have a chance by the time you walk from the door to the components aisle. He didn't say whether or not they were buying multiple cards per person.
Points to the kid for honesty, but it's unbelievable that this is what we've come to. This was the Cascade Station store in PDX Oregon, FYI.
Edit: That was apparently the only store in the area that saw 3080 Ti's, and he admitted that not a single one saw a walk-in customers hands.
