just looking at the setup, i too would prefer the pump be plugged into its own header/source.

i emailed evga support and they did say the following "The pump is not PWM so it will run at 100% even if the fans are set to a low fan curve. This is not an issue however because we designed it this way."

so at least that answers my question i guess. no matter what you set the fan curve to, the pump will always run at 100%. i still feel iffy about it, but what are you going to do.

do any of you have proof that the pump actually changes speed when you change the power level %? i would think you would possibly be able to hear a difference?

There are two ways of controlling fans (maybe even pumps):
- PWM
- Voltage
Since the pump isn't PWM you need to control it by voltage. Most motherboards have different headers for PWM or voltage fans.
Because the pump is connected to 12V it is running at full speed.

so changing the on onboard blower only changes the fan speed, but keeps the voltage the same?

Yes. The 4-pin socket for the onboard fans is always providing 12V!
The pins are (not correct order):12V, ground, tacho, pwm
PWM gives a signal to start/stop the fan by which the speed of the fan is controlled.
The pump and radiator fan are only using 2 of that pins (the most essential ones): 12V and ground. So there is no way to controll them by PWM (that is always the 4th pin).
To reduce their speed, you need to connect them to another power source which can lower it's voltage (e.g. to 7 or 9V).

thank you, now that makes sense. i dont know how the fact that it is 4 pin slipped past me.

what about people who run it on its own header, i would think under volting the pump could be bad (running it at anything less then 100%)? this is assuming the header is regulating speed/power by voltage.

My fan controller does regulate the voltage but I don't know how much. I can feel the pulse in the coolant lines lessen when I lower it.I have read in various place that less than 50% voltage and the pump will turn off. I keep mine around 60%.

i just installed the first hybrid kit on my top 980ti. so far so good. (stock install for now). after benchmarking with unigine the water cooled card is at 61 and the stock card is at 83.

hopefully i can figure out where to place the 2nd rad/fan in my case for the bottom 980ti. i have a storm scout 2 and the top is taken with a h100i and the rear has the first hybrid pump. i dont think there is enough room for a side mount (unless i place the fan externally), but then my side panel wouldn't be easily removable.

i will probably have to dremel out the the top drive cage to stick it in the front.

Are you sure you weren't using an early FuryX card?

Sorry to bring back this old thread, but I am trying to lower the pump noise on my 1080 Hybrid FTW as well. Does this still apply to that pump? I looked at the pump fan as well as the wires that power the pump itself and it's only two wires so I'm assuming it's just a 2 pin with only voltage and ground. So then you won't be able to see the RPMs when connecting it to a fan header on the motherboard correct?
