CraptacularOne OH I went down the car modding slippery slope a while ago and yeah it's a money pit lol. I had a '97 Mustang GT that I did a bunch of mods/upgrades to. Did all kinds of stuff like under drive pulley kit, K&N cold air intake, Dynomax performance headers and exhaust, ECU upgrade, fuel pump....etc. It was fun, but also a nightmare :P
Replaced everything under my 07 Mustang with a Cobra Jet setup swap, twin twin turbos, everything the works, Frank sat at 1200 HP was a fun crazy ride that felt like it was going to kill me most of the time. Traded Frank in after he flooded when I went to Asia. Cabin Filter drain got clogged while I was gone and he filled with water like a swap jacuzzi for a month in wonderful FL. 30-40k in damages, mostly electronic. Trust me Once you start taking a Jeep off-road and break stuff it gets painful. It becomes worse than a sports car, not only do you have regular wear and tear. With a Jeep also have the trails breaking stuff too upping the chances of I did something stupid today. haha

More like the Jeep everything after it was based off of, along with the whole 1941 thing. Chrysler had no hand in it, they just purchased the brand/rights/design later as the company changed hands. Even the new 18-21 JL/JLU Chrysler had no major part in. The company changed hands again and the Wrangler got a full redesign addressing some complaints of Jeep owners. Still holds true if you do not own a 1941 WILLYS you do not own a real Jeep. I’ll take my better off-roading capabilities thanks to some modem upgrades, better mpg, modern 8 speed transmission, more HP/Torque, and turbo. Along with more modern comforts making long road trips to badge trails comfortable off the lot on both our JLU’s and my 1941 WILLYS the OG of all Jeep’s that has none of those things. Well we can make a new thread for this. haha like nearly 80 years of the brand changing hands and evolution of the Jeep brand. Nice rig crap still think you enjoy the punishment, at least it's a hobby cheaper than a Jeep, trust me after owning a Mustang that was a modified super car they do not come close unless you are driving something like and or driving like Ken Block, still expensive though regardless. Enjoy your new VR setup Crap. You going to get those VR pully systems for the wires that goes along your ceiling for the room you have that box in? Also what VR games are you playing? Still have not jumped on the VR Bandwagon, after the whole nvidia 3d display thing am very hesitant to jump onto anything like that.

Well, yeah I never got mine over 500HP (472HP at the wheels to be exact when I did get it dyno'd) I didn't go that "crazy" with it. It was a fun ride and smoked all kinds of Corvette's off the line (which I must say brought a huge grin on my face every time) but it was just not getting practical to drive anymore especially with kids and grocery runs. So now I drive a boring 4 door Audi A8 like every other suburban shlep

Haha I had to drive my mother in laws minivan, bought her new tires and had to get them put on. Hated every second of driving it. Don’t know how you all do it. Hear you on not being practical anymore. That’s what gets most drivers out of their fun rides. When I brought Frank in the next day to get the keys end my new Jeep had the dealer owners, a handful of salesman, and a group of mechanics that we’re al waiting for me... had me second guessing my decision. Had a lot of fun with Frank at Sebring. Smoked a many 300k-3mil+ sports to super cars. Frank vanished from the dealer in a day. Someone I imagine is happy. I think all the neighbors in the community think we are drug dealers or something with two colorful built Jeep’s out front... So how do you have all your VR cables and stuff setup? Like in a big room with a pulley system on the ceiling or you just play in your computer chair?

I pretty much use my Oculus Rift S exclusively at this point and it only has one wire from the headset to the PC. I do also own a PiMax 5K Plus and had a Valve Index (that I sold a while ago) and while they are great (the PiMax and it's massive FoV are truly mesmerizing) but it requires the lighthouses set up and that means running more cables and possibly drilling holes. The room where I have the VR system has concrete walls and a flat top roof with no attic so drilling holes would be a massive pain in the ass (as well as the wife not exactly being thrilled ). So for simplicity I just use the Rift S. It requires no external sensors (it's completely inside out tracking system housed in HMD) and only a single cable which can be neatly tucked to the side of the desk when not in use. Oh I draw the line at minivan, that will NOT be me LOL. My wife drives a Range Rover and that's as close as it's going to get.....

Just do not have anymore kids ROFL, or one may be in your future. It will be that or one of those I got candy inside vans.😂. I am 100% with you on a minivan haha. Range Rovers maintenance scares me after the warranty is out haha. Its why a lot of my friends in the UK are trying to get an older Ranger Rovers to fix themselves, or snagging a new Jeep. Was curious how you did your setup, have seen some people with the holes drilled into the ceiling and everything. Was like damn so was curious about your setup. So there is hope if I do plunge in I do not have to go crazy in my house. So what all are you playing?

That's why we lease, yeah it means always having a vehicle payment, but it also means everything is usually covered under warranty As for what I'm playing right now in VR, I play a lot of Pistol Whip as it's not only a great game but man it gets your heart pumping and great for some indoor cardio. I play a lot of Dirt Rally 2 in VR as well when I wanna just sit and chill or Star Wars Squadrons is also a lot of fun in VR. Or some Elite Dangerous. Another game that I've recently gotten into is Stand Out which is a VR battle royale type game it's still in early access but it's really good. Until You Fall is also a lot of fun if you like swords and magic type of fighting. I have lots of games in VR that are at lot of fun but those are what I'm currently playing. I'd be remis if I didn't mention greats like Half Life Alyx, Boneworks, Asgards Wrath, Stomrland, Robo Recall or Lone Echo. All are fantastic and if you do get a VR headset are almost required playing.

CraptacularOne That's why we lease, yeah it means always having a vehicle payment, but it also means everything is usually covered under warranty As for what I'm playing right now in VR, I play a lot of Pistol Whip as it's not only a great game but man it gets your heart pumping and great for some indoor cardio.
We mod our rides too much no matter what it is to lease. Warranty always goes out the window at some point. Did you try Skryim VR "beaten dead horse edition", and Fallout 4 VR?

Someday, I'll look into VR. Have never tried it. Closest I've come is wearing FPV goggles flying my drone. Is the technology there yet on VR? if so, what's a good setup?

Yeah and the cool part is most of the mods for it like the better textures and crazy spell mods work for it too. It's pretty good and if you haven't slayed a dragon in VR yet with a enchanted sword in one hand and casting arc lighting form your other hand......well you just haven't lived Delirious Someday, I'll look into VR. It's actually really good man. The easiest option to get into it is a Oculus Rift S, it's only $300 right now and works great. The Oculus Quest 2 is good too but the HMD is heavier and more uncomfortable to wear for longer periods. Also the link cable for it to get it to run full scale PC games introduces some latency and compression artifacts. That's not an issue with the Rift S and to be honest if you intend to use a gaming PC to drive your VR (which you definitely should) then forget about the Quest 2. Overall though it's very good, and when you look into the HMD, you aren't just looking at flat screen put up close to your face (even though you technically are) everything has depth and feels like you are actually IN the game world instead of just looking at it. It's really incredible and games like Half Life Alyx or Boneworks really show it off.

CraptacularOne Well inevitably, I kept upgrading my secondary VR rig and it just keeps getting out of control lol. Even though my EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 was more than enough for any VR games, I went and got a Sapphire Radeon RX 6900XT Nitro+ to toss in there for really no other reason than to just have an all AMD rig I could play around on The Sapphire RX 6900XT just came in today and I popped it in and ran a few benchmarks to get a baseline at stock speeds. Time Spy = 17681 https://www.3dmark.com/spy/17630357 Port Royal = 9784 https://www.3dmark.com/pr/802041 Card seems to boost to about 2300Mhz at stock out of the box settings.
Hi CraptacularOne, Which system do you see performing better in games? Your i9 & RTX 3090 or 5900x & 6900XT? From the benchmarks, the i9 & RTX 3090 is running better. Also, which has better temps? Which of the systems do you like the best as far as "horsepower"?

Anything that uses DXR effects like Cyberpunk 2077, Control, Watch Dogs Legion. Metro Exodus etc, the RTX 3090 system crushes the 6900XT. It's not even close when running ray traced games, and even more so if you use Nvidia's DLSS to which AMD has no competing tech. Regular rasterized games however like Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Witcher 3 etc, they are both pretty much the same in performance with a little edge to the 6900XT. Temps I can't really compare since I have the RTX 3090 system is fully water cooled and the 6900XT system is all air cooled. My main gaming system is the RTX 3090 rig though for the reasons I stated above, ray tracing is substantially faster on Nvidia 30 series cards and they offer DLSS that has no competitor from AMD and in regular rasterized games is just as fast as the 6900XT for all intents and purposes. That's not to say the AMD rig is bad, far form it. It's actually really good and if my RTX 3090 rig was removed, I wouldn't have any hesitation to continue using the AMD PC. If I was doing any "real" work on either of these PCs, I'd probably use the 5900X and the RTX 3090 in one system to take advantage of the higher core count of the 5900X and also be able to take advantage of the larger 24GB VRAM buffer and CUDA acceleration on the RTX 3090.

I have a RTX 3070 and it played everything just fine in VR at max settings (hence the name of this thread ) and I just got this 6900XT out of sheer curiosity lol. Grab a Rift S and jump in, if you're at all curious I urge you to give it a try. It's literally game changing

How did you like your RTX 3070 in general? I didn't go with a 3080 or 3090 due to only having a 1440p display, been reading its more than enough and anything more was over kill. I am defiantly thinking about VR now.

It's fantastic, I still have it and have plans for it. It's funny, I had a RTX 3080 in this rig and sold it last year because it was just massive overkill for VR games and I stepped down to a RTX 3070 which was still massive overkill for VR games. Then curiosity got the better of me and I was presented with the opportunity to trade another of my RTX 3080 for this RX 6900XT and well, here we are The RTX 3070 is a great card though. Easily powerful enough for 1440p and even 4K in triple A titles.

For things like gaming, they are virtually identical. For productivity tasks it's often better to use the 5900X since it has 2 more cores and 4 more threads to leverage. But it's also not just that cut and dry since if you are doing things like rendering video you'd want to use GPU acceleration whenever you can anyway since GPUs are far faster for that task. Having said that I do just end up using my i9 + RTX 3090 rig for the light video rendering I do. CUDA acceleration on Nvidia GPUs is much faster than AMDs GPU accelerated rendering and since the RTX 3090 is in the Intel rig that's what I use. I'm no professional though and what I do is just for a hobby editing some mountain biking videos I goof around with.

My Jeep Renegade has a Jeep logo on it. It's a Trailhawk. Okay that said it's really a Fiat 500L in disguise. Miss my old 4.0 XJ. That was a bear to part with.

Looks tidy, temps may not be better but now you don't have to worry about your fingers as much if you have to mess around with the RAM sticks.
