So I got a 3090 TI FTW3 Ultra Gaming earlier this year. Well one of the fans went out, this is what I don’t understand why does EVGA want the whole card? A fan would be cheaper to ship, the entire card to ship it properly is about 70+ usd. That’s more than what the fan is worth, you could buy 4 EVGA GPU replacement fans at that price. Fixing it yourself with spares, while keeping the card especially if it’s a close to silicon lottery to a silicon lottery GPU that you won’t be getting the same quality back on a once bstock or in most cases since it’s the top FTW3 3090 TI a broken refurbished card. I just don’t see the logic in that.

Only thing I can think of is they want your card to use for rma purposes after they repair the fan.

If the card is fine, they should ship a fan ...especially since they don't care if you remove the shroud and fan assembly.

In this situation I would consider two options:
  • order and replace EVGA OEM fan without asking RMA
  • investigate for better fans that fit, and replace all of them
But that's just me.

I'm not sure if EVGA ever offered to provide just parts, as part of their RMA plan

It is one of those issues, shipping costs more than just buying a fan.

It would be nice to see fans available for purchase, directly from EVGA

So, as you mentioned - pay for shipping & just swap coolers or to buy your own fans (if you can source them) - if you are very happy with your GPU performance

Yeah its pay for shipping and swapping the whole card sadly. I will be just buying EVGA fans out of china. Just crazy the manufacturers are selling them, yet EVGA USA has none.

I know it seems counter-intuitive to have to RMA the card, but there are reasons why we do it that way. It's far more complex than just having a box of extra fans lying around for these situations unfortunately. Generally we don't have spare parts available for video cards at the RMA warehouse, for certain logistics reasons I can't go in to detail about. We can't just strip the fans off of faulty cards either, for different logistics reasons. In the end, it would cost us more to keep fans on hand and send them out than it does to ship a complete replacement.

WOW!
EVGA barely have logistic.

How about order fans from your supplier and give him customer address?
You realize how easy and simple is that? One man, one PC, and roughly 20 seconds.
Instead, receive and unpack returned card, run basic diagnostic test, move to repair section, check available card, pack and send refurbished card.
Hard to calculate total time spent on this RMA process.

No wonder AIBs can't have decent profit margin.

I had a fan go out.
RMA'd the card. they sent me a bad replacement that failed in a week.
RMA'd again. this replacement had an issue with PCIe only running at x8.
RMA'd again to finally get a working card.

they paid shipping 3x between east-west coasts, and lots of wasted time for both of us. next time when I have a fan go out on an otherwise working card I will probably just buy a spare fan and/or cooler from ebay to harvest for parts.

I am about to be in the same situation, one failed fan in my card. I am afraid to play anything and damage my card, I turned the power down to target 90% and that definitely helps, but I am not interesting in sending in my card, unless they let me buy a KingPin which i wanted my whole life but evaporated after the change.
I am also VERY interested in a EVGA AIO for the GPU if they had any of those left. I have the precision tools and drivers to accomplish the tasks. With the move out of video cards I am not exactly interested in sending a good working card with a limited supply, as anyone in tech knows as you keep devices running over time the ones left become the bottom of the barrel.
