Hi guys! I just want to ask how many hard drives does my psu support? I plan to put 30 hard drives but on my research, i have 3 sata ports and 1 periph port and they share the single 25A load for all the four ports, is that correct?

Currently i have 14 hard drives connected, how many hard drives can I connect for my 850 gpu? Larger wattage psu has the same 25A in 1000,1300, and 1600 gpu. How can i connect additional psu? This is for my server. Any recommendation? Thank you!

Hi Xplitz and welcome to the EVGA forums!

the 850 G2 comes with a total of 3X SATA cables 2 which support 3 SATA connectors and 1 cable that supports 4 connectors or giving you a total of 10X SATA connectors. Now, if you want to factor in the perif port, that will also support an additional SATA cable to allow you to plug in a few more drives but if you want to do 30X drives you would have to purchase a separate PSU to connect the rest.

To my understanding it would be pointless to purchase a higher wattage psu is that correct? Since all of them if not most of them only supports 25A in sata and periph port? I would be better off purchasing lower wattage psu? if not the same wattage.

Thank you!

Yes to your first question, I actually looked at our 1600W power supplies and those only have 3 SATA ports and one perif port and  would only be able to accept up to 15X drives although the PSU itself could support more than 30X if they had more SATA/perif connectors. You could just go purchase another 850 G2 but the most HDDs you would be able to plug per unit is 14X drives or combined would be 28X.

Thank you! I bought molex connectors to replace all the sata connectors so that I could use the molex to x4 sata power cable, so that I could power more drives, If it doesn't work I will get a 2nd PSU, Thank you! I learned something today. :)

Is there a pinout already on the forums somewhere for this power supply (220-G2-0850-XR)?
Had a quick search but couldn't find much specifically for this unit.

Backstory:
I'm using this power supply in a home server and I need to connect 6x molex plugs for the SAS backplane plus 1 more for additional power to the PCI Slots.
No graphics cards.
All I'm powering is a pair of Xeons, the motherboard and up to 24 spinning drives (maybe 1-2 SSD drives for cache)
I'm 99% sure I'm fine on wattage so just need to crimp up some custom cables to use the sata and peripheral outlets to power everything up.

Disclaimer:
Probably using unraid with WD Reds so will likely never hit the PSU limits anyway.
Already had the PSU in another rig so moved it over.

Thanks in advance from this first post n00b.
