They responded to me today and said it could be as long as 5 months so I'm going in expecting it to be 5 months which is why I decided to just pick up a 2080 super from newegg.   I wish I could get it sooner, but realistically this is like going to a car dealership and buying a new car and them telling you  we won't have your exact car for a few months but in the meantime take this loaner and put as  many miles as you want on it until your car is ready.  It's a pretty good deal and now I don't have to spend my days stressing trying to check 3080 stock every 5 minutes  to see if it is finally available.   I was using a 970 so going to a 2080 Super will already be a huge improvement.

Lol, 5 months that would be ridiculous, but then again, by that time we may have a 20 GB 3080 or a super/Ti, if we reached that long, may as well cancel the current step up and step up to the newer model lol. I want to give my business to Evga as I have always bought PSU's, cards etc, however I will keep hunting for any 3080 from any vendor I can get, if I do, bye bye Evga step up, their loss (I know one person is nothing but just saying).

They probably lose money doing step up vs selling at full value so I doubt they’d be super sad.

Just to be clear it is 1868 for the last 4? I am 2079 so I am just trying to make sure there isn't another 1000 people ahead of me lol. But I also strongly agree with what someone else said above, this program is literally a god send for those of us that don't care to fight off bots and are fine waiting for a card.

What time did you submit your Step Up?  What are the last three digits of your Step Up ID?

hutiu4u
Just to put everyone at ease, I did receive my step 2 email on 9/24 @ 1:04 pm PST.  The queue is being worked on.

Last 3 is 868.  I submitted my request on the day of launch and I received my confirmation email @ 6:14 PST.  There's an unofficial thread posted in regards to the different times that people received step 1 confirmation.

You sir have your head on straight. I am paying $37 (lost taxes and shipping costs) for the privilege of not having to fight off bots and bull****. I am pretty busy so I don't have time to click on that notify link that never comes. EVGA is seriously doing everyone a favor with this.
Bretb949
3-6 months is what I went into it expecting.

It only makes sense they fulfill full price retail demand first and begin step up fulfillment after retail supply/demand stabilizes.

Step up cant be a money winner, it’s part of their market positioning as the best in class service/customer experience in GPUs.

They might fulfill sooner but expecting them to fulfill step up before retail demand stabilizes is frankly unreasonable. It’s an entitled point of view when it’s a customer service gift. Especially entitled when many of us are using it for: a back door method to back order highly demanded 3080s.

Not only do we get to back order a 3080, we get a free loaner GPU while we wait. So I don’t want to hear any whining.

FYI when I googled 2080 Ti step up threads it looked like orders entered in thr first couple weeks after launch (sept‘18) began fulfilling in mid-December’18. The past does not predict the future but it’s a data point.

So I'm a total noob at the Step Up program details, but I have some questions:

1) If I buy a EVGA 2070 Super from Amazon today am I still "eligible" for the 3080 FTW3 step up.  I don't care when my 3080 would come in, just that eventually I'd get one.
2) What happens if I bought a EVGA 2080 Super from Amazon which has a price of $949 right now and I want the $750 EVGA 3080.  Are they going to give me the 3080 + $200 difference or is it only the difference from a cheaper card?  In that case I would probably just go for the 2070 Super at the moment.

I'm currently rocking a 2012 AMD HD 7950 and I've been waiting literally years to build my new PC so a 2070 Super would be a great hold-over until the 3080 is readily available.

1) Yes you can do that.  Just make sure you follow the rules and steps and you'll join the queue.
2) No, you won't get the difference back.  It'll just be a 1 for 1 exchange with you paying shipping and any taxes, if any.

If I could buy a 3080 today I wouldn't care about the step up program so much. I just want new toys, but honestly I'm using a 2080 Super and it is still an amazing card that still can handle any game.

Just FYI, a lot of the marked up 2080 Supers on Amazon/Newegg are being sold by resellers that aren't on EVGA's authorized list. If you don't get one from an authorized reseller you won't be able to use the step up program (at least from what they told me on the phone). You want to make sure it's being sold and shipped by Amazon, Newegg, etc...

If you really want a 2080 Super to use while you wait in the queue, try googling the 2080 Super ftw3 ultra on Newegg. I snatched one in the morning last Sunday and it has come in and out of stock every morning for like an hour or so this week. Just make sure the site doesn't sell you one of the marketplace resellers items. If you see above the price that it is being sold and shipped by Newegg you're good.  Otherwise, while you're searching for a card be sure to get yours from a store on EVGA's "where to buy" page.

Re: How long of a wait for the Step Up Program to the 3080 FTW3? 2020/09/28 19:14:57 (permalink)
Honestly, I gave this some thought from a business perspective. In reference to the "step-up program" the customer has a usable card and you are "locked" in to getting a hot product. The hot product (30 series) has an ultra high demand. I have heard people camping outside a store 4 days prior to the launch of the 3090 and a few days out from the 3080. Only 15 were granted the right to own the 3090 the day of the release of that store. I mean a freaking hot hot product.

Now, you are a company that has an unknown base that will buy your card right now no questions asked. Hell last night if you tell them where to meet you they would be there with cash in hand. Have you seen ebay? Check the prices there. A 3080 goes for well over a full priced 3090!

So back to being a company you have unknown buyer base and your present customers on a list with no promised delivery date. This is simple and EVGA is a great company but simple math and economics make the decision. I would sell the cards to the public until the demand was saturated enough when I have surplus then spill over to the step-up folks. If you really think by Xmas, smoke another man. I am forecasting February for step-up to start. Hopefully most of you have 20 series cards to get you through it. I hope I am wrong so wrong but its not looking that way.

So just doing the math here, but his number ended in 868 and got his Step 1 e-mail confirmation at 9:14am EST.
I got mine at 10:15am EST but my number ends with 824.
If the numbers really are sequential, at least 950 people got in line between him and I.
So how many cards does EVGA put aside each week for Step Up?

Yeah got in at 9:22AM EST on the 17th and no 2nd step yet. Can't imagine there being THAT many people in front of me considering I got it in the actual second the site came back up.

You should be coming up soon. Someone who got their Step 1 confirmation at 9:19 got their Step 2 this evening

What technically is step 2? Is that an email saying you are now in Step 2?

Yes you'll get an email for every step including the 1st. I know part of the process is that they contact the verified outlet you purchased your EVGA graphics card from and cross reference the invoice to confirm the MSRP and that there were no rebates with the purchase and whatnot. Not sure if the card is technically also reserved by that point or not, some users are reporting the other 3 steps taking less than a day.

Thanks man! my number is in the mid 600s so play the waiting game I guess. Step 1 so far and invoice uploaded and purchased from EVGA. I guess I was wrong with my speculation/forecasting of the supply. I am so glad of that.

There's several threads detailing members step 1 times and (if) any step 2 messages.  You can use that as a guide or an estimate.

I put my Step up request in at around 5:30 pm on 9/29 (for a 3080 FTW3), I received a queue confirmation a few minutes later.. so step 1 achieved.

Well using this math my number ends in low 300s.. the wait will likely be 24  - 28 weeks.. so that's half a year :-(

Super great technology launch. Made worse by people buying tons of cards using bots and selling them on ebay.

Will be interesting to see: what gpus are rereleased between now and then,  if a new 3080 FTW3 will be sent or a refurb.

One thing is for sure, I am doubling down on my policy of NOT paying more then original list for any equipment.  I checked the nvidia site and the 3080 FTW3 is now listed as costing $1,500, and listing Amazon as the etailer to check availability on, at least thats what it was listed as this morning.

Only brand new GPU’s are sent out for step up, no used GPU’s.

Ignore Amazon prices as they are all third party and not EVGA selling them, so they don’t even come with the brand new card warranties or ability to buy extended warranties as they are considered second hand products and not purchased by original owner.

Also, same goes for eBay. Buying a prepurchased card from eBay will net you a “used” product even if the box is factory sealed.

Well that made my day.  wow.  At least one manufacturer (EVGA) is doing the right thing.  I know I made sure my EVGA 2080 Super FTW3 was "sold and shipped" by Newegg before I pulled the trigger.   Thankfully its working great so I am settled in for the wait lol..

What's your hang-up on the rules?  If you joined the queue, the 90 days is irrelevant from that point on.

It just sounded like the queue would be too backed up and I wouldn't be able get in queue, before the 90 days.

This part of the statement, specifically.

Oh no, it'll never be "backed up" to stop you from entering the queue. The queue itself is quite backed up and won't get completely filled for at least till the end of the year or early 2021 at this rate.  The "until approval" is when it's your turn get a card, EVGA will review your invoice and submitted info (this is Step 2) so you can pay the difference and get ready to send your old card back.

Re: How long of a wait for the Step Up Program to the 3080 FTW3? 2020/11/06 19:06:24 (permalink)
Jut saw this thread. I got in the Step-up on Sept. 17th at 7:21am.
I got my step-2 message yesterday, Nov 5th at 9am.

Hope that helps a bit!

We gonna be waiting til the 3080 Ti comes out mate :-D that's why I'm so glad I got a 3080 from eVGA directly through the notify me queue because I signed up for it day-of release as soon as the site would let me.
Still doin' the step up though, I'm not the only one in these parts that wants a mint 3080 at retail O_o

There is a google docs list in the unofficial 3080 Step Up thread. It is not all inclusive as not everyone has entered their data but there is large enough participation to get a good idea where you're at. As of this writing, the last person to enter their step 2 info was #74 whom submitted the request on 9/17 @10:23 (All times are reported as EST). We can assume everyone above them has gotten to step 2 but have not updated the doc.

There is also an column for a projected step 2 date based on step 2 data entered. My first step up card was entered on 9/17 but was inexplicably canceled. My second card was on 9/18 @1255 and my expected step 2 date has moved from Mid December to Mid January.

I signed up on the 21st. I am not expecting my card before March of 21. Don't fool yourself. Unless nvidia really pushes out a metric asston of cards, you are going to have to wait a long while.

No other way around it. And I really think evga is going to give priority to retail sales instead of the step up queue. Which means even longer of a wait. Glad I bought a 2070 super when I did so at least I can game.

I sent out my card yesterday morning and they received it today. It looks like I will have my 3080 less then 2 months after I entered the step-up queue. Truth told, I thought I would be on my 2070S much longer not that Im disappointed :)
