As we all already know, the 30 series GPU famine has left gamers with no other choice for us other than to reuse our old GPUs. I personally am planning to reuse my 1070 with the 5900x that I was able to luckily get my hands on.

I was wondering if anyone else have tried doing what I've done and could share their experience with me? I've never bottlenecked a system before so I don't know what I should be expecting when I finish my new build.

I just rebuilt my machine from i7 6900 cpu to Ryzen 5900x. I re-used my water-cooled EVGA 1080 ti.

In all the various benchmarks, the graphics scores are essentially identical. Only the cpu scores changed for the better. Which makes sense, seeing as it's the same gpu.

You may see some improvements in games that aren't entirely gpu-bound due to the effect of the higher cpu, but in games where you were already gpu bound, you're not going to see much.

That being said, the games I'm actually playing right now ran extremely well on my 1080ti back when I first got it, and they still are running extremely well, so I'm pleased. The machine upgrade itself went well.

I'm sitting out this current gpu market foolishness for now. We'll see what next year brings.
