Hot 2080 TI Idle Tempature?

I have a build that's two days old now with the EVGA 2080 TI XC Ultra. At idle when I'm using Firefox, Steam, iTunes, etc the card runs a bit warm at around 45 - 50 C. In games such as Battlefield V and Rome 2 Total War it gets around 75 on Ultra Settings 2K and 144 Hz. The fans are not running on idle due to default fan curves. I'm running the Precision X1  software and haven't adjusted from the default fan curve where they don't turn on until 60 C.

The case is an NZXT H500. I'm not sure if this is an airflow issue as removing the side panel doesn't result in lower idle temperatures, and in fact it appears to raise it by one to two degrees. I was hoping this toasty idle temp wouldn't effect the longevity of the card over time.

Is this normal or should I be concerned? If the latter, what are some steps I can take? All the drivers are updated to the latest ones available. If I were to counteract this heat by running the fan at idle, would the fans eventually wear out faster over the card's lifespan?

NZXT cases are awful. Terrible airflow, you are better off getting something from Corsair with high airflow.

I'm not sure the airflow is the issue though, because similar temperatures occur with the side panel removed.

EDIT: I suppose I should also mention that my monitor is a PG279Q which a 1440p monitor with 144 hz refresh.

"At idle" ---> What is the GPU & RAM MHz indicated on X1 ?

You might have very minimal airflow from your Case fans, with the side on

What CPU & how are you cooling it ?

    What is the room temp?

What case fans (number, size, blow In or Out) & speeds ?  test at 80% to 100% and see if it helps

My 2080Ti (s) are working hard are 40 -45 C above ambient (room) temp with fans on 100% & open case

The Cards fans not running till the card gets hot is the trade off for the "silent mode"

To lower the Temps try setting a fan curve to keep the fans on say 20% or 30% at a minimum.

Test at 120 Hz on your monitor to see if card temp come down "at idle"

Test turn Off hardware acceleration in your browser

What CPU & how are you cooling it ?

It's an i9-9900k cooled with a Kraken X62 (radiator + fans are hooked to front panel as intake)

    What is the room temp?

Room temperature is about 21-23 C

What case fans (number, size, blow In or Out) & speeds ?  test at 80% to 100% and see if it helps

I have the CAM Kraken software set to "silent mode" for the front intake radiator and the default H500 fans set to rear and top exhaust.

With silent mode engaged, these are the case fan speeds and CPU temperatures:

I spoke to EVGA tech support and the recommended setting a fan curve if I wanted the temperatures lower, but they said the current idle temperatures shouldn't be an issue. I was just concerned about constantly running the GPU fans intermittently to cool the GPU during idle would wear out the fans faster.

I'll see what temperatures I get with my 60 hz 1080p panel running alone.

    Thanks for the help.

OK, just remember your also dumping the CPU heat into the case - where the GPU gets its air

So it is like your running the PC in a warmer room, depending on the temp of the air after CPU cooler

You will not wear out the fan keeping it running in my experience.

Just an extra thought - EVGA does sell the 5yr & 10 yr warranty upgrade for a nominal cost
    (I bought 10yr for both of my 2080Ti & I'm running them 24x7 Folding@EVGA)

Its nothing really u can do bout the temps on that card, LOL trust me, if I didn't put a fan curve profile for my 2070 idling it would get to over 100 idling, I do have a (open frame case) TT core p90 best case ive ever owned, and plus id recommend water cooling these rtx cards if ur able to, that's if u want those temps to stay down even under a load, plus I have small fan blowing directly onto my GPU from above which lowered my temp 5-10 degrees even under a load, without that fan it would reach 155-165 on the temp, im getting the 2080 ti in few months and I alrdy got the water cooling picked out for it.I also done away with the closed cases, don't care for them no more and plus open frame case, less fans, less dust also, u be surprised the less dust u get wit an open frame case :P

The norm is to put reference to GPU & CPU Temp in C

This is really, really bad for GPU cooling.  The front radiator is highly restrictive to intaking air into the case, then the two exhaust fans draw it out under negative pressure, overall making a pocket of stagnant air around the GPU where it sits in it's own heat. There's a few things that could be done:

    - Mount the X62 rad as a top mount exhaust, cut a hole to accommodate it
    - Get a large CPU air cooler
    - Get a 120mm CPU AIO
    - Turn the top fan to intake, remove the rear fan and PCIe slot covers

I would also recommend idling the card with about 35% fans.

No worries.  Can't tell if you're joking or not through the forums.

Open case will cake the components with dust unless you got one of them dustless labs in a suit.
