Hopefully its ok to post this here in the General forums :)

A friend of mine who's been asking me to build him a PC for a while finally got down to actually wanting me to do it.  On a whim i asked him if he'd want to just buy my current PC, and i could just use the money from it to buy myself a new one rather than just upgrading the one i currently have.

Thing is.. im not sure how the asking-price for used PC's is (in good working order).

So.. the spec's on my current machine is:

Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Gun Metal (Mid Tower)
CPU: Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition 3.5GHz (Six Core)
Motherboard: ASUS P9X79 LE [SATA III, USB 3.0]
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz
Primary Hard Drive: Samsun 850 EVO 250GB SSD
Secondary Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Evo 500gb SSD
Tertiary Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Evo 500gb SSD
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 Ti Hydro Copper Gaming 6GB
Power Supply: 1000 Watt
Operating System - Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Any thoughts on what would be a fair asking-price for this?

*quick update!*

forgot i had replaced the Primary / OS Hard-Drive! forgot to update my notepad file. Has been updated with the new Drive now.

Go to amazon and New Egg and research what each of your systems components are selling for. Then go 60% of the total value. Pay particular attention to the video card availability. If it isn't available then ask more for that item.

I actually did that at first.. though didnt take such a large mark-down... i was only really looking at the CPU and GPU costs though, not the entire thing.

You'll need the right buyer for $1300.  6-core Intel or Ryzen's are cheap.  Can build a pretty good new gaming system for under $2k.  As a secondary system, it's still very good setup, but getting old.  Good system for kids to start gaming.  Keep the new good stuff for dad.   ;)

If it was my friend, i would talk them into building a new system. That is the best option for them. All the parts will be brand new and still under warranty. Use a website like https://pcpartpicker.com/ to make a parts list for CPU/MOBO from AMD and Intel.

I would also recommend having your friend build a new rig.
Figure out what he plans on playing before he invests tons of money into a new pc though. Theres no need to spend 2k on a gaming rig if hes only going to be playing LoL, RL, or PUBG.
Another factor to consider is the resolution he wants to play at - gaming at 1080p is cheaper than 1440p.
I don't know if your friend is going to want to spend $400-$500 just on a monitor.

Given what you have into the build. I would say somewhere around $1200 would be reasonable especially if you give him all the included drives. The processor more than keeps up with what is currently on the market and that 980ti isn't a slouch.

With Graphics Card prices so high and a beastly 6 core cpu like that, you could easily charge over $1000 without much guilt.

Just an FYI, the X79 motherboards are pretty rare right now and coveted by Xeon overclockers. That board alone could possibly get you $300+ on ebay.
