What I find frustrating is when you get called out in a staff meeting with lots of congratulations and verbal appreciation, but then nothing else.

Hey you're better off than some, I got laid off thanks to the pandemic after 13 years at my place of work, and thanks to new ownership that was taking over as the pandemic was shutting stuff down, they haven't hired back a single person that was laid off early last year - they don't want to pay our higher wages when they can hire "new" people at minimum wage.
I feel like I wasted a third of my life there, to be honest, and I have nothing to show for it, literally.
Congrats on being close to retirement & what not though, that's awesome & good for you as well as RJ.

Working in EDU, I expect a lot of "Wow, 20 years already!" and that's about it. No such thing as bonuses or anything unless they're personally from a boss, etc. Already at 15!

Same! I just hit 5 years at my company all of 1.5 years ago. I got a nice Henckels knife block set for it out of a crappy corporate gift booklet. I think I consider my company's 401(k) match plan to be a much better future retirement gift.

Interesting, I work for the fed gov in the US and I've got a bonus/award/early step promotion every year that I've been with my current office (7 years now) and it's always somewhere between $1000-2500. Each organization handles things a little differently I guess.

At GE, I got to choose from cheap lame gifts from a catalog for my 5th. I was laid off just before my 7th.
At my next company, I made out almost two years before getting laid off in January.
Hopefully, I'm done getting laid off for a while.

$400 ain't bad. I think we get $50 at 5 years, $100 at 10 years, $200 at 20 years. But you get gem inlay pin with logo with a different gem for each milestone. Not worth much but its something. Good stuff is in the regular benefits atleast.
