With the cost of graphics cards well in excess of a 100% price increase from retailers, why is EVGA boosting their own prices as well? As a gamer, it's difficult when I'm just looking to upgrade from an older GPU!

I can't officially speak for EVGA but what I can tell you is that memory prices are escalating. Not just DDR 4 but GDDR5. A quick look for a 128GB DDR4 Dominator memory for Corsair is over 1100 Euros.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Memory including DDR3, DDR4, GDDR5 and even GDDR6 all come from 4 manufacturers. Since everything including my toaster comes with some memory inside, the demand has risen and thus the price has increased for RAM alone. Coupled with the high demand for graphics cards means the price for those has increased too.

The prices you mention 100% markup are NOT from retailers -- from Third Party Scalpers

Amazon, newegg ...... allow anyone to sell at any price ...... best advice do not buy from scalpers

Lol... I don’t get why you whine about these prices when the new generation is nearly less than a month away from release. Wait patiently and prices will settle. For a short while.

that sounds great but the fact is its going to be awhile before the really good new generation cards come out , so its not like its around the corner for them .

And while Im here I payed 659 for an nvidia evga 1080FTW2 , How much would they have been normally?

It was a really bad time for my evga 770 to die but I had it for almost 5 years so Im happy about that . other than for me it was doing fine with the games I play , I was still getting High/ultra with and average of 45 FPS so I could have gone another year maybe :)

Well last March I picked up my 1080FTW for $439 as a B-stock.  So let that sink in to how demand has made prices go insane.

I remember the  8800 Ultra and the GTX 280 released. Both at higher MSRP than the 1080..Adjusted for inflation, the price to performance ratio has increased by a massive amount. But many folks only see $$$ and don't realize the massive performance gain in the last decade for both GPU and CPU for LESS.

EVGA store is MSRP -- that is not 100% markup

Buying a card for $400 and selling it for $800 --> that is 100% markup

If you have been following the news since last fall there have been announcements industry wide that DDR price will rise significantly and these new prices will impact consumers in 2018

It's pretty crazy when you think about it.  $699 for my GPU in March 2017... and now it shows $1299.  I paid $250 for 32GB 3200 ram... it's now $450.

Glad I'm not trying to build a PC right now.   I said when I built it I'd want to run at least 3 years before I started upgrading parts... still my plan.

No problem paying 240 for 120 card, no problem paying 800 for a 500 card and def no problem paying 1200 for a 700 card, not whining but loving it, and i hear things are only going to get better (new cards will def make prices better...ha hah ha ha )
got a evga 980ti so im good for awhile longer (def not buying a new vid card anytime soon, they dont need my $$ anyways)

I do fully understand that newegg, evga and everyone else can jack the prices up because there are people stupid enough to pay that much, you/they can blame ddr prices and cripto miners all they want but they are no doubt taking advantage of the situation, prices should be 20 more not 300 more (evga prices are not as bad as others, though they have no cards)
and sticks of memory used to be way more

I just sold my 1080 ti (that I'd bough last June for $750) for $1100.  That a 50%+ return on a card that's 8 months old -- insane.  That money is going right in my "Ampere" fund.

I can deal with using my trusty "old" 780 ti SC and backing down to 1440p for a few months until this all simmers down.

Re: High Prices! 2018/02/25 11:58:52 (permalink)
Long time voyeur (and fan of) these forums - so a very belated hello & howdy here. I'm still amazed how well my EVGA GTX 670 keeps performing for most games and was very pleased with my EVGA card before it. I too would like to upgrade that card - but not gonna pay the outlandish card prices current in the marketplace.

PC Gamer and Tom's Hardware have had some great articles on it IMO - 2 days ago:
A recent talk with Nvidia, and Nvidia's supposed prediction "that the pricing in the market will continue to go up through Q3 of this year most likely before we start seeing any type of relief." "In a  tech community lead Brian Hutchins talked about a visit from Nvidia to Massdrop HQ, in which they discussed the causes for the current shortages. "All new cell phones coming out by Apple and Samsung (and others) last year started using the same memory as graphics cards," Hutchins writes. "Apple and Samsung are willing to pay more for this memory to make sure they get it first and all of it that they need. This has created a shortage of memory for the much smaller companies like MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, and EVGA to make graphics cards."

I however was pleased to see I can purchase a card (thinking of the 1060 6G) thru EVGA (when stock is available) and the prices seemed pretty affordable.  I actually prefer to do it that way - so will just wait to do so - plus check out the weekly Wednesday sales. But think Nvidia and AMD (and somewhat the card manufacturers) might be walking a semi-greedy biz tightrope here. If the lil mining party ends - then they'll come back to gamers saying they love them again - and some may have moved on to consoles or etc. who got sick of waiting for card price$ to come down.  Intel also just opened a GPU group and revealed a prototype - albeit just in the infancy of development - but still could decide they want some of that revenue in the future as well.

Well now a lot of sources say the memory shortages will last until 2019. So this prices don't show a sign of slowing down.

In 25 years or buying/selling components, this may be the first time I actually make money from buying and using something.  Now the question is a) how much will the new card's prices be jacked and b) do I hold on to the profit or get something shinier e.g. a "2080 SC2 Hybrid".

One can only assume the next gen will be just as inflated.   I'm totally fine with waiting on the next gen.  I don't have a backup card and already used the integrated 7700k GPU for a week while I was waiting on my 1080 Ti step up.  It wasn't fun.

My original investment (card and hybrid kit) was about $850.  It's definitely not worth it to me to fall back to integrated graphics to sell for maybe a $300 profit.

I suspect that one reason for the very high CPU prices is that the new GPU architecture is about to drop and Pascal series cards are now end of line. So combine limited / falling supply, with boosted demand because of the miners on top on normal gaming demand and you have the classic supply side squeeze.

I don't doubt memory prices contribute, but there is no way that memory explains such high price differentials that we've been seeing.

Expect prices to normalise somewhat during the summer with the new GPUs.

EVGA has the 1050ti 4gb @ 239.00, when I paid 129.00 for it not too long ago. Can you tell me the Markup is from retailers only? Even with rising memory costs, the markup directly from the supplier is ridiculous!

    Cool GTX
    Slimmer
"The prices you mention 100% markup are NOT from retailers -- from Third Party Scalpers"

evga online store 1050ti is $240?

they are all taking advantage of the situation, even newegg, amazon and evga have jacked the prices way up.... v.gamers are what made these cards worth anything and now they cant get one...new xbox/ps is best bet for now

EVGA store is MSRP -- that is not 100% markup

Buying a card for $400 and selling it for $800 --> that is 100% markup

If you have been following the news since last fall there have been announcements industry wide that DDR price will rise significantly and these new prices will impact consumers in 2018

Mmm... Not quite. MSRP for a 1080 is $500. I paid $650 or so for the cheapest one EVGA had.

Not sure if that's price inflation or just their pricing policies, though.

Dang buddy, looks like from your specs you are as future proofed as you could hope to be. Do you have pics of that build posted anywhere?

I built my computer back in early September and I went for a 1060 6gb because I thought $520 was outrageous for a 1080 at the time...

Oh well, I feel fine about paying $640 for my 1080 SC2. Really wish I had sprung for some faster ram at the time though, I can't feel good about paying double for that...
