Hey guys, sorry for not being active anymore firstly I could not even log in anymore then I took a break the Capatcha thing kind of blocked me, this was like 4 months back maybe more, I really lost count, then I found my old password that I written down so many years back and that worked, so yea  back again right.

As for my old Dual 12 core Opteron well it died sadly it all happened during maintenance here I will tell you in detail what really happened and yea  the new ZEN3 platform I am working with now was a true worthy upgrade as it's my first in 11.4 years time, which makes me wonder what we will see 11.4 years from now right!
The Dual 12 core Opteron Died during the cleaning process as dust particles landed in the sockets this fried the CPUs and sadly it's 11.4 year life ended, I held 11.4 seconds of silence and this was very painful for me and I was very disappointed with my inaccurate working methods it showed that I kind of lost my feels for such perfection, it was hard to accept and it still is.

So here the previous setup:

Valkyrie SMP 2014

2x 12 Core AMD OpteronMP 6180 SE D1 Mangy Cours, 24 Cores @ 2.5Ghz
2x Noctua NH-U9D0 A3
48GB NUMA Quad Channel DDR3-1600 ECC Reg HP Server Ram @ 1333Mhz
Supermicro H8DG6-F AMD Maranello Blade Server Chipset 2x AMD SR5690 Northbridges,1x AMD SP5100 Southbridge
Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX Vega 64 Limited Edition 2.0 PCI-E 2048 Bit HBM2
Auzentech X-Fi Bravura PCi-E 7.1
Corsair Force 3 240GB SSD
Micron Crucial MX500 2TB SSD
Plextor PX-B950SA BR-RW Drive, Singlelayer & Duallayer BR-RW + Lite Scribe
2x Intel 1000 MBit Ethernet RJ45 Lan Jacks
SeaSonic PlatinumX 1000 Watt EPS 12V + 24V PSU
Lian Li TYR PC-X2000B Server Design Case 1 of 200 Made Worldwide
Lian Li W-X2000-B Window Kit 1 of 200 Made Worldwide
Hewlett Packard ZR24w 24" 16:10 Aspect Ratio HS-IPS Panel
AMD VSR @ 2560x1600x32 @ 60Hz

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64 UK + Service Pack 01
AMD Adrenalin 21.5.2 Beta for Win7x64

Here the Supermicro H8DG6-F mainboard it's self format is 12 x 13.48" it's massive it is the E-ATX format:

Here the build after cleaning also showing the cleaned 12 core AMD OpteronMP 6180 SE D1 Mangy Cours Server CPU's
And the entire build just after I assembled the entire system again:

As memorial of that reliable system that I used for all those years, I have placed the mainboard with the CPU's & Ram in my coffee table just for the good memory.
If I was more secure when cleaning it I would of still been using it now and I would not of regretted that either.

So sadly I had to get new-gen gear and this is what I bought after the helpful advies from my friend Mahigan mainly for helping me out sorting out the correct parts and the other main thanks go to my dad for helping me fund the build.

New Parts List:
12 Core AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 12 cores / 24 threads @ 3.7Ghz base Speed & 4.8 Ghz max trubo speed
Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4
Noctua NF-12 PWM , an extra 120mil fan for the CPU cooler
Gigabyte Aorus B550 Elite AX V2 for Socket AM4
4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB PC-28800 aka DDR4-3600
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X AE-5 Plus Dedicated sound card for 32 bit digital Audio with 384khz sound quality

That is all I could afford I salvaged older parts from the Dual Opteron build but I did make something nice out of it, not a 2CPU build but just a 1CPU build for now.
As I still want to do aDual EPYC build some, its just more my inter5est tbh, I always built 2CPU systems since Jan 28, 2000, the Dual G34 was the last one I bought new in 2010 - 2014, it took me 4 years to gather the needed coin and save up for the part I wanted for that build, so at least not all if it died and I can happily resue the following parts for the new upgraded build:

Salvaged parts List:
Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX Vega 64 PCI-E 8GB 2048Bit HBM2
Corsair Force3 240GB SSD as main boot disk
Micron Crucial MX500 2TB SSD as game disk
Plextor PX-950SA BluRay RW Drive for Single & Dual Layer BR disk
Lian Li TYR PC-X2000B + Lian Li W-X2000B Window kit both 1 of 200 made worldwide
SeaSonic Platinum X 1000 EPS 12V + 24V PSU

And then I knew exactly what to do with that to make it function and still something beautiful, despite it being a 1CPU build.
So yea this ain't a retro build this time round, something a lot newer and too different, I am still trying to get used to it and progress is slow.
the hardware is very nice but it's just Win10 can be a chore at times my home and pride will always be Win 7 Pro for new-gen hardware and Win2k Pro & WinXP Pro for the older stuff.
This is the first new computer I bought in a 11.4 year time lapse, I never really liked windows 10, so I held it out as long as I could until my own personal failure during the cleaning process of the Dual G34 system's CPU's, which still upsets me,two a three weeks ago I was still enjoying it with Windows 7 Pro x64 UK + SP1 and I do still miss it every now and then.

Thus here the name & Specs of this new system:

Valkyrie 2022

12 Core AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4
Noctua NF-12 PWM , an extra 120mil fan for the CPU cooler
Gigabyte Aorus B550 Elite AX V2 for Socket AM4
4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB PC-28800 aka DDR4-3600
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X AE-5 Plus Dedicated sound card for 32 bit digital Audio with 384khz sound quality
Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX Vega 64 PCI-E 8GB 2048Bit HBM2
Corsair Force3 240GB SSD as main boot disk
Micron Crucial MX500 2TB SSD as game disk
Plextor PX-950SA BluRay RW Drive for Single & Dual Layer BR disk
Lian Li TYR PC-X2000B + Lian Li W-X2000B Window kit both 1 of 200 made worldwide
SeaSonic Platinum X 1000 EPS 12V + 24V PSU
HP ZR24w HS-IPS panel aspect ratio = 16:10 native reso = 1920x1200x32 @ 60Hz
I use VSR at 2560x1600x32 @ 60Hz instead [image]data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7[/image]

Windows 10 Professional x64 UK
AMD Adrenalin 22.7.1 WHQL for Win10 Pro

Left this was during first bootup, 2nd pic is after Ia dded a LED RGB strip that came with the AE-5 Plus sound card.

Here the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 mainboard

Just a typical black PCB, having the AX V2, it has two shlieds covering the NVMe M.2 slots.
It does look neater, not sure if having them shielded add function, I have no idea.

Here the heart of the system the 12 Core AMD Ryzen 9 5900X ZEN3 CPU
second pic shows the Gold Capacitors used for the onboard Realtek ALC1200 sound card, probably the ebst onboard soudn card I ever heard for quite some time.

It reminds me of the ALC 883 that came with my Suprermicro H8DAE-2, which I still have for an other rebuild project, there are always things to do here.

Here the Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX Vega 64 PCI-E 8GB HBM2 with the Creative Labs Sound Blaster X AE-5 Plus PCI-E
They both have a transformers style paint job on their backplates, as if they were made for each other [image]data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7[/image]

Here the system when I completed building it [image]data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7[/image]

This system is so fast it was as if I was like reborn my Nitro+ Vega 64 still does everything I want it to so Ikept it games i play are mostly classic games and it has really no issues with those the only new gen games I use it for are these:

ARK Survival Evolved with Play as a Dino mod and 13 other ones
Minecraft 1.19.2 Java edition with Life 128x texture resource pack
Subnautica Below Zero
Fallout 4 + 54 Mods yes it runs fine, I just literally modded the hell out of it always fun Nexus mods = life  xD
Dragon Age Inquisition + all DLC;s
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt + all DLC's
Ascentroid, well as a main tester this game is most of all importance and we are doing very well!

And there ya have it,  I still do retro PC rebuilds got four retro PC's as well but they are for an other topic  :)
Enjoy the photo's & content as always of course

also cleaned the PSU , and from after 8 years of use I was really shocked hot it looked like in there:
second pic shows it after the cleaning treatment

This sight really scared me to be very honest... Now I will clean out my PSU every 2 years, just to be on safer terms.
But yea that PSU really scared me to be honest, just showed even how experienced one is or how careful they are with their gear , doing as if all is fine is never the ebst way to go, now I plan to clean out the PSU every 2 a 3 years, to prevent any kind unwanted incidents.

As the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X ZEN3 Vermeer CPU goes it's a monster of a different kind to what I am used to seeing, so far everything runs nicely even with my 5.5 year old Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX Vega 64, this card does everything I want it to at my reso of 2560x1440x32 just fine, this saves me money  for putting in to a new GPU.
So I made the choice to save up for a Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XT  and by the time I make this move my  V64 has met it's 6/5th year of reliable service, which will be a nice time for it's replacement and use the  Navi 31 XT for an other 6.5 Years onward and see from there, as long things last and I can keep them well maintained and cleaned all should be fine.

Hey thanks and yea well prices didn't allow me to get more, and since CPU's of today are kind of SMP based the 12 core/24 thread CPU I went for for this build  is on average about 3 times as faster as the previous Dual12 core Opterons  from 11.4 years ago so yea this will have to do for now, I still wanna do PU builds but with the inflation being around , its not doable for me, it is sad but this system will just have to do for now.

    Cool GTX
    Nice Build

Hey thanks for the Blue Ribbon and your kind reply man!

Long time no see I hope everyone has been doing great here as for the build  it took me ages , my arthritis like pains really slowed me down sadly, took me like 3 a 4 days to get it all neatly tucked in there, okay the TYR isn't an easy case to master either but the result was surely worth it though I have not forgotten how to build modern systems, still doing retro builds btw

Yea only 200 TYR PC-X2000B's were made the mass production model was the TYR PC-X2000F, the F model does have a scree mounted IO bay mine is pop riveted although the three Heat chambers aren't really present with the F model so that is kind of a down side if airflow is your main importance.

When I ran that Dual12 Opteron airflow was very much one of the main priorities of the build the TYR PC-X 2000B was the best choice or the PC-888 , only this blue  case that had the shape of that 7 star Hotel named "Burj Al Arab" suffered space in the front section, it would of worked but it would of been far less practical, how ever for the Ryzen 9 I have now the PC-888 would of been my choice, not something I could choose back in 2011, since Ryzen did not even exist yet.
Here a photo of aPC-888 with Dual EVGA GTX 580SC 1.5GB's had these too back in 2011, fun times.
Pics aren't mine I just saved them for my archive, if I ever find one of these cases I know what I am gonna do with it  :) Maybe something Intel themed, I always loved trying out things.

Lian Li said it was supposed to resemble a said from a Yacht  but originally it was supposed to resemble the "Burj Al Arab" 7 star Hotel from Dubai, this meaning was changed so Lian Li would not get in trouble with the owners of that hotel most probably, not really sure, just my hypothetical conclusion on it.

The photo was made by Joi Ito

So the TYR  was my final choice, and I still have it in use, choosing a case is the hardest and most annoying thing to do when building a new system from the ground up, so always try to look around what are all your options, the TYR was the most expensive one but  now looking almost 11.6 years back I Still think it was my best choice ever, but I guess other PC and workstation builders here have ran in to similar things.
As the Lian Li PC-888 goes or Triple 8, I still seek one but I know it won't come easy, what will, the PC-888 is a design from 2010, it's like 12 years old rofl

Here a nice review of the Lian Li PC-888 by 3DGameMan

    Love those retro builds

Well this Ryzen 9 isn't really a retro build my current Retro PC's are from the timeline of 1999 to 2003, that era.
I just need to send my Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P to my friend in Hannover, Germany for a checkup one of the fan headers needs replacing and a BIOS chip need to be reprogrammed,as it is corrupted also the capacitors need a check through as well, I looked 9 years for this mainboard as it supports all HiNT Based 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 Engineering Samples all the cards made by Anthony also work in it's AGP as well it's PCI-X slots.
    Here that board:

Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P Made during week 35 of year 2003, it uses the AMD 760MPX North Bordge + AMD 768 South Bridge:

It does look like new but yea I did find some defects, good news it's all fixable so it will be worth the wait to get it all sorted eventually.

It's just taking a long time as I need funds to get this done, so yea a round summer of 2023 I am hoping, here the system thus far:

    Gradinko SMP 2003

    2x AMD AthlonMP 2800+ Barton CPU's @ 2133Mhz + 2x 512MB L2 Cache
Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P AMD 760 MPX chipset
2x 1024MB PC-2100 ECC Reg CL2 Micron Crucial Server Ram
2x 512MB PC-2100 ECC Reg CL2 Samsung Original Server Ram
    Leadtek A400 AGP 128MB DDR (GeForce 6800 AGP 256Bit GDDR3)
Sweex 5 Port  NEC USB 2.0 PCI Card
2x Seagate Barracuda 250GB 7200.10 rpm HDD's 1 for main HDD the other for extra storage.
    3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI Macintosh 64MB Rev.A1 2900 + PC Bios 1.18_DVI @ 66Mhz 32Bit PCI mode
Creative Labs SB0350 Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
Addtronics 7896A Server Case from 1999 painted by myself in 1999
Corsair TX650 M PSU or equivalent, still looking in to this.

    WinXP Pro +SP3
NVIDIA Forceware 84.21 WHQL for GF6800
SFFT Alpha 41 modified by p47 & myself for the V5 PCI Mac.

The PSU is an Antec True Power Classic 550, but it needs to be replaced as it is missing the +5Volt Rail conenctor it only has 19 of 20 pins, this  Dual AthlonMP board needs all 20 pins thus the Corsair TX 650M came to mind.

Here how I connected the two Seagate Barracuda V 7200.10 RPM HDD"s up tops using them Akasa 90cm rounded UATA 133 flat data cables:

Both HDD's are 10% healthy and have no bad sectors nothing, "Tyrannus" from Voodooalert.de got me them he wanted to gift them but I gave him some coin for it, we are after all all in harsh and complicated times.
But yea as you see looks done but it needs some work before I can do anything with it the ram & HDD's are all healthy  it's just the mainboard that needs some reworks after that all should be good
Here the system in all it's glory as the case goes once closed:

Pics are somewhat dated, but looks are basically the same, these were made before I added the PSU  :)

    The Addtronics 7896A from November 1999 is a rarity these days  my AthlonXP 2200+ uses the smaller borother of this case the Addtronics 6896A  Entry Level Server Tower; here both compared;

Here I still had the two Intel Pentium !!! decals on it, these will be exchanged with two AMD AthlonMP decals of course.
The original manual for these two cases can also be seen in this photo, not many people have that either, this was a few weeks before I started building in the mainboard of the Dual AthlonMP build.
As you can see both are painted I did the paint arts of the Addtronics 6896A in Novvember of 1999 and for the Addtronics 7896A in March of 2008.
the 7896A was my Dual Pentrium !!!?EB 1000 was a file server for Voogdt B.V Middelharnis, The Netherlands for a friend of mine from 2003 to 2008.
Around April of 2003 I sold it to him for 500 Euros and got it back for just 100 Euros in 2008! After that I never let that Addtronics 7896A Server Tower, they are just hard to come by, even back then.
Wen I gt it back I gave it a Tundra Camouflage Livery, not too over done but it does look nice even today.

The Addtronics 6896A Entry Level Server Tower has self done artwork from my favorite two games of all time Descent 2 from 1996 & Freespace 2 from 1999 both released by Interplay, Descent 2 was made by parallax Software as where Freespace 2 was done by Volition Incorporated.
Here the artwork on the Addtronics 6896A and the Camouflage Livery on the 7896A in the second picture:

The VGA table is also doing a comback, it has more graphics cards than it has for the past 5 years, slowly but surely I will be filling it with more graphics cards as well mainly from 3dfx, ATi/AMD, Matrox & NVIDIA, but hopefully Intel & S3 as well.
I am just trying to gather a few cool cards I lost many years back, selling it all wasn't ideal to be honest.
Here it's state as of now with my old Dual 12 Core AMD OpteronMP 6180 SE D1 with it's 48GB Ram on it's Supermicro H8DG6-F as a memorial for it's 11.4 years of reliable service:

But yea there you all have it, I have been quite busy here and there.
My builds may take lifetimes as well, but I can assure you the result is always amazing, so far so good right, just gotta stay possessive and not stress to much over it, all because these are systems that are around 20 years old so I respect what ever happens.
    Many thanks for reading everyone

Very nice setups! I've been eyeballing that 5900X+AX V2 combo for my low-mid range build I have planned.

Hey thanks, although the 12 core  AMD Ryzen 9 5900X is a high end CPU actually, out outperforms most i9 equivalents when it comes to multi threaded workloads.
The B550 mainboard I use is a high-mid end board, not really low end at all, not sure where you got that from really, that it's cheap does not have to mean its low end, the X570uses a very similar chipset.
the X570 is only full PCI-E 4 the B550 is only PCI-E 4 for the main PCI-E x16 slot and the main NVMe M.2 Slot the rest is PCI-E 3.1, not reaslly a suffring either, my Dual Opteron I came from was all PCI-E 2.0 so as that goes it's still anice improvement either way, only
The differences are quite small tech wise, it's just the price that makes the gap more, yet if I can go Supermicro again, that will always be a very easy choice for me, I'd do it right away.

Then again if I could afford a nice 2CPU build my choice will always be something in that direction, this 1CPU build was mainly built for emergency reasons.
If using the B550 Aorus Elite AX V2, make sure you disable the garbage Realtek 2.5gbps network controller, it's absolute trash, I replaced it with one of these instead:

Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter Rev.B 3121

As for the AE-5 I might need to replace it or RMA it as this system crashed when the sound started to crackle and end in a black screen and it would reboot  this only happened twice, but it never happened with my Supermicro build that was in service for 11.4 years, as reliability goes Supermicro wins big time, I never had to disable onboard NIC's either, Supermicro always uses high quality parts and they never cut corners.
So yea  I will see what I can do to get a nice Supermicro build up and running again.

My Auzentech X-Fi Bravura never showed any weaknesses in the timeline I used it from 2008 to 2022, unwanted things like crackling sounds which the AE-5 Plus have caused twice which would cause the system to lock up and reboot, such things pass on unreliable experiences of the unwanted things.

When I say low-mid range I meant in terms of older games and various MMOs. My build will be relying on a Gen1 EVGA 2070 I barely got to use before my pc went belly up. Nice tip on the ethernet even though even though I might be using the wifi. In fact that's one of the reasons I plan to get this particular board. That and the dual NVME heatsinks. Gigabyte seems to be the only ones actually doing it right with well priced AM4 boards with a good set of options\features.

Oh it's fine and yea no worries, good thing tho the Wifi chip is from Intel on this board. Intel like 3-Com make the best networking solutions and so far neither have ever failed me.
Realtek on the other hand had random disconnects, that went for Intel & AMD setups using their 2.5Gbps Family Ethernet controllers, even with all four power settings disabled the Realtek chip would turn it's self off to save power, I was like WHY just WHY I really lost my mind as no one could ever explain what to actually do, many were like I disabled 4 things and that fixed it but none of them ever posted what four things to disabled so I got fed up and gave up on trying, and bought that Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter and all my worries were cured.

Even this being a B550 board, I just wish that even on higher end boards they would add higher quality ethernet adapters from either Intel or 3-Com this can save a lot of unwanted issues  and even if the boards would cost 50 a 60 USD more it would at least be worth it, trust me I wish these unwanted issues for no one, as the onboard Realtek ALC1200 goes for an onboard sound card that is pretty much the best you can get, so Realtek wise they make better sound cards than network cards.

I use my AE-5 Plus for games & music and the Realtek ALC 1200 for the mic only  :)

Also keep in mind what revision your board is  as that Gigabyte made Rev 1.0 boards like the one I have but Rev 1.1 as well, each revisions does have their own Bios support pages though.

Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 Rev 1.0
    https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-AX-V2-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver

Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 Rev 1.1
    https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-AX-V2-rev-11/support#support-dl-driver
Just something to keep in mind as well

With Supermicro this was never an issue, ah well I will go to Supermicro once I ca find some nice parts again, it's just a long ride for something like that.
