I have an Evga 850 GC psu, and after recently upgrading my system with a new mobo and cpu etc, i see the fan is not running. Is this normal? does it only run under heavy load? I am assuming for now that if it was failing I would know, but i also dont want to find out the "hard way" so any help/info would be appreciated and thanks!

    hey Mike some have a switch you can turn eco mode off and on it is normal only comes on when needs to

    ok thanks, it seems i also WAY over did the wattage i needed... its 850 and my system apparently needs about 400.....things have gotten so much more efficient!

    My EVGA 750 P2 (Platinum) is the same way. The fan only kicks on when it needs to. I never hear the fan or feel any heat coming out of it. My old x58 system was a different story. I was using  Corsair 750TX 80Plus Bronze power supply in it, i could always feel heat coming out of it.

    Hi Sparioch,
     
    Your 850 GQ does have the ECO mode feature with the switch located on the modular side of the power supply. When enabled, the fan on the PSU will only spin under moderate/heavy load.
