I got a stupid question.

I'm having issues with my creative soundcard; and thus going to remove it. I don't really do any big sound work so I'm going to use the onboard audio of my X79 Dark.

Anyone got ideas on how to handle headphones? I have no front jacks and getting to back of my 19" cube case every time is a pain.

Do wireless headphones work in sense that I turn them on and my speakers stop getting audio and thus switches to headphones?

Or should I buy a 5-1/2 slot with headphone inputs?

I just use an extension cable. Cheap solution for existing headphones.

There are multiple options... If you use an extension cable you can just use regular headphones. Often it is possible to setup your computer in such a way that it's easy to switch between which audio device is being used.

You could also use a physical switch for your audio, like my brother does. Flick it on, headphones get audio, flick it off to go back to speakers.

I'm using an audio interface myself, one big knob for speaker volume, two small knobs for dual headphone input. Can use both simultaneously as well. Using focusrite there.

Loads of options to go with, someone else might provide even better solutions though.

Edit: I personally don't like wireless as you'll be forced to recharge them every now and then. But even then the recharge docks are probably used whenever you aren't wearing them to invalidate this argument

If you have front USB ports, you could use something like this below. I can't speak on how good audio quality you will receive.
(make sure you have it plugged in before you start playing games or wanting to use voice in-game)

The real issue seems to be not wanting to go behind the computer so I would go with the drive bay answer and have the ability to hook into the front. The cost would be a few cables in the case but well worth it if you don't like going behind the tower.

One thing I was wondering are we talking about for music or are we talking about a gaming headset with microphone? I personally use Bluetooth headphones for running and bought a Bluetooth dongle to use with my desktop. My gaming headset though is USB wired. I personally like headphones where I can hear what is around me for running which is why I have earbuds but for gaming I want a full headset so I hear nothing but the game.

Another option would be to just buy 2x of these (if you use mic while gaming).

    1x 6ft Black
    1x 6ft White
(easier to tell which one is for a mic)

I would try doing a refresh install of creative sound driver and software.

Yes you can configure your default sound output to be the wireless headphones and just keep them unplugged until you need them and it should switch over (in Windows 10 at least)
