Hey any of you guys use Handbrake?  I've been a "cord cutter" for about 15+ years and have needed to use Handbrake like twice, in both cases to convert to a format that would play on a smart tv that wasn't mine.  Just curious how common it is.

I've used it. A friend gave me about 70 DVD's that he did not want to take with him when he moved. Used it to rip to mp4 video then donated the DVD's to the library. Easy to watch on smart tv with PLEX or from thumb drive.

Nope.  I just hear it's popular with lawyers in the Midwest.

As a side note, I've been looking into various video up-scaling/restoration methods lately, people are still using AviSynth with various AI plugins, Nvidia is putting out new AI tech, MadVR had very good upscaling etc.

For those not paying attention to the Kenosha Self Defense trial.

There's a piece of video evidence in contest right now.  The prosecution has a copy in a fairly high resolution.
They only gave a MUCH lower res (16x lower) to the defense.
Also, it's in a weird aspect ratio that APPEARS to have been cropped from a news broadcast.
The date stamps on all these files are too current to have been the original file.
The person/business who took the original have closed up shop and disappeared.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor's machine have two different video editing programs installed.  One of which is Handbrake.
Basically, it means they're dealing with edited video of totally unverifiable origin.  Which is inadmissible.
Realistically, we have a piece of video THAT THE PROSECUTION MANUFACTURED.  Which is not only inadmissible, its also considered falsified and a violation of the defendant's constitutional rights.

In a case CHOCK FREAKING FULL of rights violations.

That's above my pay scale, I simply wanted to back-up some dvd's. It's been a few years since ran it, maybe I'll check it out (newest version) again.

Side note, people of Kenosha spoke today.
