Sorry if it's a newbie question, but what was the benefit of selling these separately.  Doesn't it now cost more to the buyer to get both of them?  Or are there other PSU's that could fit in the Hadron Air?

You answered your own question.  The PSU form factor is known as a "rackmount" predominantly for servers, and the thinnest type is known as a "1U".  Wattage can vary from 200W all the way up to 1400W, but larger wattage units tend to get physically longer and may not fit in Hadron; but such power supplies are meant for multisocket servers, not an enthusiast setup unless you want to get creative.

I suspect not everyone needs (or maybe wants more than) the 500W 40A capability with EVGA's Hadron, or just wants a PSU with a quieter fan, which has been mentioned before on this forum.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

Can you recommend me any psu that is quiet and will fit the case and can support a gtx 770 or r9 280x?

You can still use the Hadron Air w/the included PSU, it more than suffices.  EVGA themselves claimed the PSU can power a GTX780, which is the same 250W range as the R9-280X.  We even has someone here that got a R9-290X powered by the 500W 40A unit.  You just have to make sure the dimensions of the graphics card you're getting fall within the allowed space in the chassis, read it up in the product page.

Jacob, I'd personally like to know if EVGA ever plans on offering an upgraded PSU.  The 500w Gold Plus PSU in there is terrific and seriously has a lot of grunt for what it is, but it would be fantastic if EVGA could come out with a compatible 1U upgrade unit that puts out 700w or more.  I've been in the process of trying to find one that I could throw in to power a dual GPU card (Titan-Z), but it's a tall order to fill in the first place and it would also require me to disassemble it to paint the housing an sleeve the cables.  I'd personally rather have one that has EVGA's stamp of approval and is ready to go straight in.  I know someone who has a 750w 1U in his Hadron to power a GTX 690, but it's also longer than the case will allow so he modified the case to have it stick out the back a couple of inches (not something I want to see on mine).

Seriously though, if EVGA could put out an upgraded PSU to allow for dual GPU cards, the Hadron would be in a whole other league.  It's already the best small form factor case I've laid my hands on, as it's smaller and better looking than just about everything else out that that will allow for top end components.  If you guys could up the wattage, this would make the Hadron the legend of SFF cases.

Thanks for the reply, Jacob.  I think I might hold off on the T-Z for now then, since I really have no interest in seeing a long 1U PSU hanging out of the back of my baby like my friends.  I guess this means Titan Black for my upgrade out of AMD R9 290X hell, but I'm sure that will serve me well.

So EVGA is finally selling the 1U PSU separately.  Good to know.  I was actually looking for this PSU about a month ago.  Went with a 700W version since I couldn't get the EVGA at the time.

Sorry to bump this thread, but are these available anywhere else?
I need/want a replacement PSU for my Hadron Air, and newegg.com is out of stock, without backorder or auto-notify option, which means they do not know if they'll even carry the item again.
