Hackers have stolen confidential Apple schematics, demand $50M ransom | KitGuru

As reported by The Record, the hacking group obtained confidential Apple engineering files via Quanta, a supply chain company that manufacturers several products for Apple, including MacBooks. On the 20th of April, coinciding with Apple’s ‘Spring Loaded’ event, the group began posting stolen images, as Quanta refused to comply with the $50 million ransom demand.

The group is now calling on Apple itself to pay up, giving them until the 1st of May to do so. In a statement sent to Bloomberg, Quanta confirmed that it was the target of a cyberattack, which impacted “a small number” of the company’s servers. According to Quanta, this issue has “no material impact on the company’s business operation”. The leak seems to mainly contain schematics for upcoming Mac products, including the new iMac that Apple unveiled earlier this week, in addition to some unannounced refreshed laptops. Apple has not commented publicly on the hack or the ransom demand.

In my opinion Apple won't pay anything and the hackers should know that.

How cute! You think that the hackers will make their identity known?

Eh, the leaks aren't worth $50,000,000. Apparently there are even scalpers in the extortion business too.

That is pocket change for apple🙃.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

    Lies.   Apple can't be hacked.

Just ask my rabid Apple co-worker.

Other than for artistic value, are “schematics” really worth anything? We’re literally talking about drawings of devices that are already on the market.

I used to mine. Now I compute.
