Just got my invite and now have everything up and running.  This is also a crash course in dealing with servers for me

Edit:  How do I stop F@H on the instance?  Like if I wanted to enter config again. (yeah i'm a server noob)

Ctrl+c stops the client. Start the client with the -config flag to enter the config again.
screen ./fah6 -smp # -config

i can't login as root

Ensure you use the server's Public IP address. Download the server's private key file: hpdefault.pem and try the conversion again. Please provide a copy of the error message for additional assistance.

I updated the instructions and specified the server's Public IP address. Was it the IP address or the .pem conversion?

You do not need to keep PuTTy open if you start the client with the screen command and hold the Ctrl key down and select a then d to detach the screen.

screen ./fah6 -smp #

screen allows us to enter new commands and close PuTTy while keeping the Folding@home client running.

After the client is running hold the Ctrl key down and select a then d to detach the screen. Always detach the screen before you close PuTTy.

Enter screen -r if you need to return to the Folding@home client.

Right-click on the PuTTy window and select Close to end the session. If you Saved your Sessions you will be able to simply double-click on them when you open PuTTy. Remember to logon as root and enter screen -r to return to the Folding@home client if needed.

So just heard from Sleinous AZ1 is up as well now, can we use it? He says he just created another 8 core instance but isn't there a 20vCPU limit per account?

I sent HP an email. Access has been restored but I'm not sure if we should create more instances yet. This is the last guidance provided:

US West 2 - AZ2 - ON 1/10/2012 "We are requesting that Private Beta customers limit their instance creation to 5 instances. Overall account limits are any combination of 20 instances, 20 floating IPs, 20 VCPUs, 200 GB Ram, or 1000 GB HardDrive."

US West 2 - AZ1 - 1/23/2012 "As previously communicated we continue to ask customers to utilize AZ2 and will provide an update here, when it is available for customer use."

Logon to hpcloud.com and select the icould icon on the right side to see the Service Status.

Yes I'm pretty sure we shouldn't create more instances at this time. When we can, an update will be posted on the 'dashboard' section at hpcloud.com. Not to mention this line

Overall account limits are any combination of 20 instances, 20 floating IPs, 20 VCPUs, 200 GB Ram, or 1000 GB HardDrive."

Overall account =/= overall cluster

Indeed, I tested it but deleted it straight away because we are not meant to use AZ1 until we are notified that it is open to open beta use.

Is there a way to monitor the PPD?

Calculate it.
For that you need the project number, TPF etc.. Anyways, I advise you delete your running instances on AZ1

Ii will when HP tells me to
Until then I'm gonna use them
If they didn't want us to use them then they should have locked them or blocked them or whatever

They don't want us to use them, it's in the email you got from them. You agree to those terms before using the beta. They are performing maintenance on AZ1 and will tell us when we can start using it. You using it might get them some wrong results on the tests they are performing

As Zimmie has mentioned, it has been clearly stated in the email you receive with your code and again here: https://connect.hpcloud.com/

Obviously if you're using a service that you've been told not to use then you run the risk of being excluded from the beta. Just a kind warning so you don't get taken by surprise. I assume they do not physically block access to AZ1 as that should be unecessary if everyone is following the rules set out upon signing up for the beta (especially as most beta access is probably by businesses).

You do not need to keep PuTTy open if you start the client with the screen command and hold the Ctrl key down and select a then d to detach the screen.

The wording of this was a little confusing to me at first.

Just to clarify, press Crtl+A, then press D.

To me, select has always meant to click something on the screen.

AZ1 is now available for instance creation, so you may start utilizing it! You may use more now that AZ1 is available. You may have 40 vCPU total; 20 on AZ1 and 20 on AZ2!
