Hello everyone, cheers from Venezuela, and first off I apologies for my poor English, I was wondering if these temps are normal for a gtx 580 1.5 gb which came with 772 mhz core clock
The thing is tried to remove the cooler cover, and the heatsink and clean with alcohol the gpu chip, and put some artic 5 silver thermal paste, and put all back, but still that temperature, sadly in Venezuela economy is very difficult, to achieve Air Compress or a good thermal paste we barely can eat :(, and this GPU i remember my bro bough in 2011, so i would love to know how to properly cooling, also there are some Youtube videos of differents Nvidia card, wether people, changes like a kind of plastic or adhesive i dont know that goes in VRAM, looks like blocks of thermal pad, oh i remember is called Thermal Gpu pad, and i dont have those things, i mean i know people buy those thrmal pad to changes, and improve temps right?  i want help u.u this is the moment when i became a little sad, because this country opportunies are... zzzzz, but hope you guy can guidance me with a couple of videos ,or guides, or tricks, thanks.

I have the same card in an air conditioned room in a new build using a Corsair 760T gaming case. When I am playing a game the GPU temp is around 82 degrees centigrade. When not playing a game the GPU still runs around 40 degrees centigrade. The card is straight out of the box and has never been overclocked. Nothing I have done lowers the temperature. I'm using the GTX 580 because the new card I have ordered is on back order.

But Aaron, you are getting that 40 degress centigrade by using Lvl 1 performance lvl right?
Whats is your gpu temp at lvl 3, 3D applications?

And how you manage to swap between performance levels? because i can use CPU Z, to swap between levels but seems that i need to restart pc or something. wish there was a good option to swap between power consume, something like nvidia energie adapter, but i seems that the only way to take effect is by restarting pc every time.. and i haven´t pay attention to the gpu temps. so right now at lvl 3 3d application is,  60-65 idle 0% gpu

I never swap between levels. Actually I never do anything to the card in any way. If the level is always at level 1 even when I play a game I would not want to push the card anyway since 80 degrees is hot. I always assumed the card adjusted to the graphics needs. I do not know how to see the specs with CPU Z when the game is running because the game is full screen.

Those temps are normal... http://www.anandtech.com/...ias-geforce-gtx-580/17

Increasing your fan speed will help to lower the temps.

Sajin hello,  well by running Unigine heaven 4.0 it gets close to 87/89 ultra, antialising 4x, tessellation moderate, 1680x1050, camera cinematic
But by running in IDLE with prefer maximum performance power adapter in NVIDIA DRIVER,  GPU Z, shows me that temp of 60-65 I was wondering if I should

Upgrade my bios?
Current bios version: 70.10.49.0.83

And in this web page there a couple of bios drivers:
need to put the w w w , and h t tp...

No need to update your vbios. To fix the high idle temps set global power management mode inside the nvidia control panel to adaptive & restart your computer.

Re: Gtx 580 1.5 gb temperature question 2017/05/19 15:04:03 (permalink)
Sajin, oh I see, the thing is, I downloaded the EVGA PRECISION X, and, this is what i have

I was doing the heaven 4.0 benchmark with the 4 antialising 1680x1050 ultra settings etc etc, and temps were 86-89, by using this

And my fan speed is on auto right, well i can up to 100% but that's hiper loud the sound.. so i just put 80% as a test... and runs the benchmark, the temps were between 77-80 look the voltage is 1050 MV,  i did a checkout with the latest BIOS for this GTX and they set a limit of 80% fan, and then again they reduce the voltage to 1000 mV, with the same GPu clock and same memory 1002, so i was thinking that, maybe thats the best, and i will get a slightly less temperature with -50 MV, something like between 76-77 I GUESS, what do you think?

This was my last benchmark, testing on 80% fan speed. with temps 79-80
I Know my CPU RYZEN is to good for this gtx 580, and maybe i need a good one but i dont have money u.u

Less voltage will definitely help lower the temps a bit.

Sajin sorry for bother you with these question but, i realize that,  the last bios for the same GTx 580 1.5 gb which is 772/1002 like mine below the bios a serial code like:

this:
015-P3-1580-B1

And when i google it, people where selling a GTX EVGA 580 1.5 gb but they say that is SC, superclocked, i checked all specs, and the box container, and is the same model that i have, so maybe i have a SC EVGA gtx 580 and i didn't know? where can i check if i have the (015-P3-1580-B1)? also i checked that the guy who was selling that gtx their card has the same part number 1261 etc etc xD

I really want to try that bios version, to see if i get a better temp. but i dont want to mess anything :D

1580 = not superclocked.
1582 = superclocked.

Well Mr Sajin, I Ended up, upgrading to the last bios that is 85% gpu fan locked, but the MV didn't come down,  actually  still the same lol

but anyway even above of 80% it sounds loud and i rather keep no more than 80%, did again the benchmark, same result, same temps. Oh maybe i need to find a better CASE with the rear chasis fan, mines broken in 2013,  i have CASE v9 thermaltake black edition, is terrible when comes to cable management. anyway thanks so much Mr Sajin. I really hope a day my country Venezuela changes, in order to buy pc things u.u
