Got my 3080 Hybrid. Registered it, but still havn't opened the box yet lol

I don't know why, I'm nervous about connecting it and getting a red light or noisy pump.  Crazy eh?  It must be my age, as an older gamer the worry is winning over the excitement.
 
I keep thinking about all the conversations over the past two years about PSU/cable/power problems/loud pumps and overheating and it's making me go "Uh, yeah... next weekend. Then I'll set it up."       Maybe a good guide of things to do before installing the 3080 series might motivate me?

    I recall feeling hesitant about the 980TI hybrid conversion kit I purchased from EVGA. I looked at for so long that I did a step-up to a 1080 without installing it, and it's still in the box.
     
    I build about every 4 to 5 years and always start out on paper a few months out. Re-education/sharpening up my old skill-set and writing out a plan of attack.
     
    Hopefully you've had a successful install.

    Man, do it! There's no way I could let that sit in the box and keep using an inferior GPU, haha. I'm dying to get a 3090 but refuse to pay $3K for one. I also don't want to buy a pre-built PC, although I may be forced to. How long did you have to wait to get that 3080?

    If you never open it, there can never be a problem. Also, if you never open it, you have a paperweight that you will never know how well it could have run.

    Just open the card already lol. The issues are far more rare than it seems. Yes, some issues exist, but most people don’t run into any issues.

    If you never open it, there can never be a problem. Also, if you never open it, you have a paperweight that you will never know how well it could have run.

    Just open the card already lol. The issues are far more rare than it seems. Yes, some issues exist, but most people don’t run into any issues.

    I converted my 2080TI Founders Edition using the NZXT Kraken GPU conversion kit and it turned a huge disappointment of a video card into a truly fantastic card.  I was so stunned at the difference water cooling made that I purchased the EVGA 3080TI Hybrid and it too is a fantastic card.  You gotta be crazy to be sitting on that, install it man, install it!!!

    I also waited since December 2020 to get it.    
     
    Okay so here's where I'm at.   I absolutely cannot fit it (the radiator) in my case, well not without removing the front three fans, I hated RGB at first but the colours grew on me and my wife really likes them.   I barely have my old 120mm radiator fitting inside.  I'm going with my former idea of rear mounting it but it doesn't have the holes for the radiator bracing/extender, and my case seems impervious to drilling.  Tungston drill bit to order maybe?

    Are you intolerant to PC sound? If, like me, you answer yes, how does the pump sound to you?

    This sounds exactly like my 2080 Super experience.   Temps hitting 80 to mid 80s until I got a new case, tonne of fans and put the Kraken/Corsair Hydro on it, then got it down to an average of 67c at max loads.   I still feel like that runs too hot, but it was in the safety zone so I accepted it as a win.    Then I put my universal FPS cap at 120 so I now often see it in the low 60s.
     
    So with the 2080 my goal has always been 1440p/close to 120 as possible.   My 3080 goal will be 1440p/ -minimum- of 120fps.
