I am returning my GTX 1080 FTW for a new 1080ti. Since I upgrade only once every 3-5 years I figured I would make it count.

Anyways the cheapest EVGA one is a on amazon.
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC Black Edition
Is this a decent card? I could cough up another $20 for'

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2
I don't think I could swing the extra $50 for the FTW3 Variant this month. So what are the thoughts? Both solid cards that will keep me happy?

Thanks for your time

Both are solid. The SC2 gives you RGB lighting and the iCX Tech which includes the additional thermal sensors/async fans, etc.

Both cards are good cards and are mostly the same. Both have the same cooler, base/boost clocks and chance of overclock.
The SC2 has 9 more sensors and you can set the speed of each fan independently. The SC Black has just the standard nvidia sensor in the gpu and both fans always run at the same speed (that you can change with PrecisionXOC).

If I were to buy a new one I would buy the SC2 just because I prefer to have the 9 extra sensors (the different fan speeds are not important to me).
From my perspective, the only reason I see for buying the SC Black instead is because MSI Afterburner knows nothing of extra sensors or asynchronous fans, so it doesn't work well with ICX cards. If you are a fan of Afterburner or do not like PrecisionXOC for whatever reason, get the SC Black.

In the end, which card model you buy is completely up to you, since you are the only one that knows if you like the extra features or not and they are not going to make a major difference in performance. You can be confident that both cards are a good buy.

I have a SC2 and I have no regrets, I upgraded form a 980Ti and saw a noticeable improvement and form what I'm reading I'm there isn't much of a noticeable gain in game performance between the FTW3 and the SC2 so I wouldn't hesitate on the SC2.

I do like being able to monitor additional components on the card and RGB LED's is a nice touch. The iCX cooler is an excellent cooler so monitoring all these points isn't necessary, it is more of a matter of preference and having greater control with the asynchronous fans.

The Black Edition gives you the option to have an excellent and functional card, without all the frills and extras that iCX Technology offers, at a reduced cost. It's great to have choice! Ultimately it's up to you.

If you have a moment, please rate my service. We appreciate the feedback!

I just bought the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC and have no problems with it and you don't have to overclock it because it already is so you don't have to worry about using overclocking software.

I went with the TI SC Black Edition.  I had a 1080 SC2 and the extra sensors and lights were nice, but was overkill for me.  The lighting on the Black Edition is white only.  Faceplate and even white light through the fans.  The ICX cooler is on the card, so I really don't worry about the power and vrm temps...I know that the cooler is working fine.  I use MSI Afterburner, since there is only one fan controller for both fans.  The card is cool and performs like crazy.  I would buy it again, given the choice.  You can't lose no matter what you choose.

    Good Luck
