The motherboard is suffering from instability and shows WHEA PCIe errors when PCIe Gen4 devices are connected. It appears that the company was unable to fix this issue with a BIOS update, which means that a recall program had to be announced. Gigabyte is offering a free upgrade to Z690I AORUS Ultra Plus motherboard, seemingly an updated version of the same motherboard that no longer has those issues. Alternatively, customers may ask for a refund. Customers are asked to register their motherboards no matter if they purchased the DDR4 or DDR5 version. Gigabyte will end the recall program by November 30 this year, which gives everyone enough time to act if they found any problems. Those who have already sent their motherboards for an RMA, will receive the updated motherboards as well.

GIGABYTE Announcement Regarding Z690I AORUS ULTRA Motherboard Issue
May 10th, 2022 GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, is committed to producing premium quality hardware. While investigating reports of customers experiencing issues with their Z690I AORUS ULTRA, we discovered that there are certain cases of system instability and WHEA PCIe errors when paired with some PCIe Gen4 graphics cards. Setting the PCIe speed to Gen3 through the BIOS will eliminate these symptoms. To address Z690I AORUS ULTRA owners who are currently experiencing instability issues as detailed above, GIGABYTE is offering a special program to upgrade users to the Z690I AORUS ULTRA PLUS motherboard or equivalent models, or users will also be eligible to apply for a refund.

The special program will be applicable for all customers who have purchased the “Z690I AORUS ULTRA DDR4” or “Z690I AORUS ULTRA DDR5” motherboard from non-third-party retailers. Users who have just started or already completed their RMA process will also qualify. Please note program details may differ according to region. From May 10, 2022 through November 30, 2022, GIGABYTE customers will be able to register for the program by submitting a claim on the website link below. Users will need to provide their general information, the motherboard’s serial number, and proof of purchase.

Very strange that such issues were not spotted during testing of the motherboard.

the Good to see Gigabyte wants to step up, take ownership of the issue & take care of "most" of their customers with the upgrade

the BAD - However, What is this about ? Seems to leaves anyone who bought used out of the recall? ---> The design is defective, end of story.

This is bad for those bought used and can't get warranty transfer. one reasons I won't buy used anymore. maybe unless our market place and is EVGA product were warranty is transfer. Hope for good outcome on this mess

Makes me wonder when Asus will address the ASPM issue that generates WHEA errors, potentially by the thousands, that I’ve personally experienced.
