Vsync off is broken in global settings. I recommed everyone to leave it default. VR is only usable if you disable all monitoring programs. Chrome/Edge flicker fest is still there only solution is to use registry fix to disable mpo. Not the best driver tbh (took them 1 month just to write new open issues reported 2 months ago)

*sigh*  It's been a month since their last real driver, and all they've added since then was a hotfix and 3060 support.  I'd like to be able to not have to choose between a driver that works for VR games and one that works for regular games.  They still haven't fixed the warcraft flickering problem that has existed since the 3000 series first was released.  C'mon, Nvidia!

It's also a windows certified driver which is always nice to know it fully passed windows testing. They probably did this so that when you use the 3060 Windows will automatically download this certified driver for it.

This.
The flickering is beyond annoying...It happens on my KPE 3090, and my wife's EVGA SC 1060 6GB (Queued up to replace it with a 3060/3060ti). Flying into Bastion is a flicker fest.

Re: GeForce 461.72 Released 2021/02/27 18:17:29 (permalink)
I mean I get that it can take a little while to work out the kinks in a new generation of graphics cards, but these cards were “released” in September, and it’s about one day away from March at this point, and there arguably hasn’t been a single stable driver released in that entire time. It’s worth noting that none of this is EVGA’s fault (obviously), but jeez... the whole situation is just depressing at this point.

I have little doubt that some people have found a driver at one point or another in the last six months that works for them (and if you, dear reader, are one of those people, then I am genuinely happy for you), but a lot of us have not. This was supposed to be one of the things that differentiated nvidia from AMD... but apparently not anymore.

At this rate you'll be waiting for eternity. Nvidia's drivers have been trash lately, to the point where that's no longer an advantage they can claim over AMD.

Unfortunately I updated to one of the buggy versions, VR was totally unplayable, tried to roll back to 459.07 but my system went unstable and forced a full rebuild. Haven‘t tried a newer driver since.Still on 459.07 and looks like I’m staying there even longer. Totally not EVGA’s fault. This is all on Nvidia.

is there a known most stable driver for the 30 series?
I have had really good luck with 457.30 gaming, suffer from random black screens while browsing the net or watching videos on YT.
Would love to get rid of the black screens, I've been hesitant to update since this has been so good for BDO and Planetside 2.

I appreciate your trying to be helpful, but can you specify which issues mentioned in this thread might apply to that guide?  The world of warcraft flickering, for instance, is a known issue with the entire 3000 series cards and all the drivers that have been released since then, and unless I'm wrong, there isn't a fix for that aside from waiting for a good driver to be released (which is pretty astounding considering how many people play that game).  I've found that driver version 457.51 works better with respect to that issue than any of the other drivers, but of course some of the newer drivers work better with other games than that version does while working worse with world of warcraft (some drivers have far worse flickering issues than others with that game in particular).

I'm not responding here to be contrary, but rather I am trying to save some people the time and work that goes into the steps in that thread if it's not going to help with the specific issues that they have.  There are certainly things that that guide can help with, but it's not a fix-all and can potentially be a waste of time depending on what issues people are having.

I don't know about those games in particular, but I have read in multiple places (I'll see if I can track down some sources when I have time) that 457.51 is generally the most stable for most people.

Good point

I'd add watch out for the sound drivers ... if your PC has dedicated sound drivers - I'd avoid loading the Nvidia ones .. known to cause conflicts at times

I've learned, the newest drivers are not always the best driver ... if your current driver works, don't update for no reason

This driver version caused my display to go out of range and there was no way for me to fix it. I ended up rebooting only to find out it had destroyed my boot drive. I tried windows repair which of course failed, and I tried all the other troubleshooting for windows which also failed. In the end, I had to restore a backup from the previous Sunday.
