I have zero issues with 390.65 so I’ll wait to see if this driver is solid before I just jump out and update. Last time I did that every game had driver crashes left and right and I had to chase my tail to figure it out and fix it.

I ended up trying these drivers anyways. My 1080 lost 10-15 FPS across all games and it introduced bad stuttering. I downgraded to 385.xx drivers and FPS is strong zero crashing and zero stuttering. Anything newer and I get crashing stutters bad FPS etc. idk whatsup with that but. I don’t like this new driver one bit.

@fetter Oh great, sounds like I'll stick to my plan of letting others "beta test" a fresh release.

Weird.  Have you tried the previous driver?  390.65 I think it was.

Yes I had 5-10 FPS more than 390.77 but 385.41 is working the best for me currently on a gtx 1080. No stutters and stable FPS and no driver crashing. I’m gonna do more thorough testing when I get home on every version and I’ll report back my findings and 3dmark scores with each driver for those that are curious. I’ll be a test dummy for 390.77

    3DMark FireStrike 390.77 Graphics Score: 23 879

    3DMark FireStrike 385.41 Graphics Score: 24 265

Both same memory and core clock. Not including overall score since I forgot to overclock my CPU to match the score in one of the tests.  Proves to me that the older driver is superior, and this driver is bad. I'll be sticking with the 385.xx drivers as drivers newer than 385.xx have also shown lower 3dmark scores at same speeds.

EDIT: Re ran the test with OC'd CPU. Here are updated scores.
    390.77 Overall score And Graphics score: 19 878 and 23 879
    385.41 Overall score and Graphics score: 20 229 and 24 265

Interestingly my Physics score improved on 385.41 as well with my i5 8600k running at 4.9ghz for both tests.
    Physics Score 390.77: 15 158
    Physics Score 385.41: 15 538

I don't know whats going on with the latest drivers above 385.xx to cause these lower scores and slowdowns but its very very interesting.

It seems thats instead of helping on better scores. It's actually hurting. Wonder whats Nvidia doing and not letting us?

I don't know but I forced Windows 10 updates off to stop auto updating my NVIDIA driver and tested 385.41 in games even games that came out after the driver like BF1 and I have higher FPS than I did with 390.77 which is also very very odd.  I am sticking with 385.41 for a good while.  I like having high FPS and no stuttering, and I am able to beat other peoples scores on 3dmark with zero effort on this driver that have to sit there and overclock to reach these scores :D

Its because of the whole specter and meltdown freak out.  Funny part is they need to have remote access to your computer to even be able to take advantage of that.  So is the decrease in speed worth it? Not really.  Just dont let anyone randomly get on your computer and dont give remove access to random people on the internet. Problem solved.

Spectre/Meltdown seem like a non issue for most of the general public.. it would be nice to be able to opt out of the fixes if you choose to take the risk :/
