Hey Everyone,

I've noticed recently that when I try to launch a game, that it takes a while to launch. I have everything on an SSD, so no issues there. When I click to launch, the screen stays windowed as shown below for 3-4 minutes. When I launch iRacing, I get "Launching the sim." and it stays that way for 3-4 minutes as well before it starts loading the sim/track. Once the game has loaded, everything is per usual as with a game loaded on an SSD. Any suggestions on how to fix?

The only time this doesn't happen is after initial system startup. If I open a game after initial startup, it launches normally with no issues. If I exit, and try to launch a 2nd time, that's when the issue occurs.

Have you taken a look to see if there's any unusual activity in the Task Manager at the time of slowdown?

I have, but honestly, I'm not really sure what would be considered unusual if it's present in the Task Manager.

Exit all all other apps like Frostbite and see how the startup speeds are.
Is Game Mode Enabled or Disabled in the OS?
Look in Task Manager {Details} and sort by CPU and see what has this Highest % Running.

What's your antivirus, if different than Windows Defender?

What's your SSD brand/model? Check for firmware updates? Also, if it isn't an Intel SSD, and you have Windows 10, open the Windows Defragmenter and click Optimize on the SSD partitions. Windows 10 is smart enough to optimize, not defragment.

When did this problem start and did it happen after a certain change you made to your computer?

That's certainly not normal though and the OP shouldn't have to set that for every game they play. It's a workaround, but I'd really like to know the actual cause.

Agreed - I don't remember making any changes, but that doesn't mean I didn't. The only updates I recall making recently would be graphics drivers updates.

So, after trying Sajin's suggestion, I tried launching BFV, Madden 19, and iRacing. All launched normally and I thought my issue was fixed. I sat down to play last night, and I'm back to square one with the slow launch times. Here's a screen grab of my task manager as Madden 19 is launching.

I went back and made sure that "Disable fullscreen optimizations" was checked, and it was. No changes have been made to the system. Any ideas?

As a test how about exiting out of stuff that is not needed, I see steam is launched, you have xsplit open, is madden 19 launched through origin?

I'll give that a shot. I typically use Xsplit to record in Madden, but I'll try shutting that down along with Steam. Yes, Madden is launched through Origin.

Gave this a try last night, still having the same issue. This is really bizarre...

Could you provide some system specs? CPU Motherboard etc...
What kind of storage is the system using? HDD SSD SSHD MVNe
What is the capacity or capacities of the drive or drives?
Edit: What does Disk Defragmenter utility indicate in the of the state of the drive or drives?
Have you run a full scan using the antivirus software also run AdwCleaner.
Also to double check run Free Malwarebytes it can detect stuff other AV might not see.

I'd run a Display Driver Uninstaller in Safe Mode first (select NVIDIA if it didn't already do so) and clean install the latest NVIDIA drivers, actually.
