MatthewAMEL The thing that has REALLY got to sting 3090 owners is this... https://www.pcgamer.com/an-air-cooled-radeon-rx-6800-xt-just-set-a-single-gpu-3dmark-record/ An air cooled 6800XT is now the top performer in 3dMark Fire Strike. It beat a LN cooled FTW3 3090.
With modified settings* Yeah the 3090 definitely isn't a price per dollar champ but I rather would have my 3090 now than fight tooth and nail for a 3080 thanks to the que system. The 3090 moved rather fast. Actually I'm just glad AMD is not only competitive but the 6900xt looks like it's gonna be tippy top dog

Not really. I can't speak for everyone, but the 6080 XT (and the 6090 XT) have the advantage where it matters to me the absolute least (gaming under 4k). I am not interested in value for dollar when I build my systems. I am interested in top performance at max settings. The 6800XT (and the 6900 XT, IMO, as well) do not supply top performance with all the bells and whistles at 4k.

Fire Strike, a benchmark written in the 2012 and 2013 for the GPU in that era. Sure buddy, if you wanna live in the past and only play DX10 and DX11 games from that era.
Well, you might have noticed I have a 3080. I was more alluding to the part that the $650 AMD is outrunning the $1800 3090. That's before the 6900XT or any of the OC AIB boards show up.

His review is hard to digest. I prefer LTT personally.

If you want the best or need it for money making needs, then it is a no brained. For gaming stick to the 3080 or wait for the ti variant. I really hope EVGA gets the 3080 ti in Jan, with availability.

What are your thoughts on lack to RT and DLSS type of scenarios? I much like you don't care for value for dollar, but I do care for long term relevancy of a card. I was seriously considering the 6900 XT, but, am unsure now, especially with the 3080 ti rumours.

Nvidia will have advantage in Ray Tracing and Upscaling (DLSS) this generation. What are your gaming goals? If you think RTX will become mainstream and you plan on using it at 4K, then I would go with Nvidia. Perhaps wait to see if they release a 3080Ti and where it falls in relation to the 6900XT. Ray Tracing will become more prevalent, ironically enough because AMD supports it on both consoles.

I own 3090 ftw3 ultra and have never regretted getting it. Money is a non issue for me and I thrive to be on the best side. While I'm happy that amd is on competitive side now, it's still not enough in opinion. RT tech has been around for close to 2+ years now and yet their perf on latest offering is underwhelming. Sure there is not many full RT enabled games yet but once cyberpunk drops watch the rest of devs/studios pick it up and watch it go. Just like how W3 did to the gaming scenes. Until today many gaming studios trying their best to emulate the success of W3. I rather have the tech with me now rather than regretting it later when I really want to play on the latest and greatest tech offering. That said, pandemics suck and I wish everyone who is still hunting for gpu gets one and whatever card that is.

Its literally just Flight Simulators. As of now RT isn't a thing but the devs have mentioned when they switch to DX12 it could be just so that they can implement RT. Having said that, unlike some lucky folks here money is of concern, as in, I don't mind paying for the best right now, but, I need it to be relatively competitive for the next 4 to 5 years. My current PC is from 2017 with 1080ti and a 7700K and it works well. I did have to custom cool both by delid etc. I am a bit trigger happy at the moment, but, I might be best off showing restraint and waiting past January. Current market affair could force my hand on that lol.

I think the thing that many have to realize is that the audience that reviews speak to are not the small percentage of us that can easily afford a 3090 and other top end components. Look at the Steam surveys and top selling cards and it's mid range or lower. The reviews are speaking to the folks that are on a tight budget and trying to maximize their spend. I would wager that while 4k displays are becoming more mainstream, there are still a huge percentage that game at 1080p with 1440p being small and 4k being a few percent. The one thing that 3090 owners should care about is the overall quality of components compared to other AIB partners. I may be too loyal to EVGA, but I do wonder if the Asus Strix would have been a better choice. However, the warranty and support from EVGA is worth the premium. Who else would let me buy a 2080 Super a month before launch and then swap it out for a 3080 FTW3 with only having to pay for shipping?

That level of customer service alone is worth it! I am also between ASUS and EVGA, especially since EK has blocks from ASUS. If I can't get my hands on a HC variant then I'll just wait for 3080 ti announcement since most third party blocks should fit the ti variant without much issue. I am definitely considering EVGA for their customer service. Let's see how the new notify goes.
