I posted this question in Ubisoft's Crew 2 tech support forum, but it isn't getting any response, so I thought I'd toss it out here for discussion. I got this game free with my 1080 purchase but it's a 23GB download. There's no way that will happen on my DSL. Is there a way to download the setup file to my phone from a hotspot someplace and then transfer it to my PC for installation? thanks, Ian

If there is an option to save the file, I would think you could download it onto a thumb drive from somewhere with faster access

I found a download time calculator... according to that, my DSL would take 55 hours. I may just try to do that and see if it errors out or times out. The Ubisoft app for android doesn't show Crew2 in my game library and their website doesn't want to load in either windows firefox nor android Chrome at the moment.

1.2mbpsis not going to cut it in this day in age. Need to take the quantum leap and look into broadband service options in your area ... if there are any ISPs providing such in you neck of the woods?

That's the only thing available where I am for the moment, although fiber is about 1/8 mile down the road and heading this way. Maybe I'll have something before fall. I am NOT going to try to download that game on my DSL. The newest GPU drivers I've been trying to download this afternoon have errored out 4 times so far and they're less than 500MB.

No idea if you may have already but if I was in your position I would be showing my interest and asking them when I would expect the service to be available. At only 0.125 mile down the road they might get it to your humble abode a little quicker.

We've been on the phone to Spectrum and ATT over and over through the years but no joy. This fiber thing has been a new development this spring. They finally ran it out to a newish 600 house development a couple miles down the road and kept on coming. There's a new natural gas pipeline pumping station about 3 or 4 miles on the far side of us and we're guessing they're bring it out for that, but that's just a guess on our part. I don't care if they're bringing it out for Santa and Mrs Clause as long as they bring it.

It’s always worth contacting service providers to see if they will bring it your way and the time table. As for the download some download services for games are very good at restarting at a later date if the download fails or stops partway through. If you have the option to save the file then going to a place and downloading in a fast connection would be an option but it’s still going to take a lot of time.

Update... I thought what the heck, I'll try it. After several days of seemingly error/restart free downloading, it's at 23.86 of 23.87GB. Refuses to download that last 0.01GB. Probably errored out someplace (or several places) in the middle and didn't recognize it till the end. Edit: I paused it and unpaused it to no effect and finally I just cancelled the download. I clicked the restart button thinking it would just restart from zero and what do you know, it resumed and finished. I've been out of gaming for quite a while and while the graphics are just outstanding, it looks like this one in particular is really designed for a gaming controller like a wheel. With the amount of keyboard controls, I'd need a keyboard overlay to remember them all and 8 fingers on each hand to use them. LOL

Meh... the controls are too hard to be for the game to be enjoyable. The car isn't too bad, the boat is tolerable, but the airplane is impossible. The keyboard controls listed are yaw left and right, smoke and landing gear up and down. Nothing else in the airplane section. A google search later and someone found that the right shift and left control did up and down. I found it very awkward. I also couldn't figure out how to abandon a race unless I did a ctrl-alt-del and drop to desktop. If I bound the left/right arrow keys for driving the car, the yaw controls for the plane would revert to default. I would have to go to the menu and rebind the airplane when it switched from car or boat to airplane. I'm REALLY glad this game came free with the 1080. I would have been PO'd if I had paid $60 for it. I see comments that it was a poor job of porting a console game to PC. Any game that requires overly complicated controls takes all the fun out of it. Remember Battlefield 1942? That game with today's graphics would be awesome. Don't want any other human players on the map with me or even worse, trying to talk to me either. Single player mode. The older I get, the better it used to be... well, except for the graphics... The popularity of Minecraft in this day of realistic graphics makes no sense. Ok, old man rant paused (I can't turn it off completely )

Update. Seems that the first race they put you in was an introductory of land, water and air and once you got through that, you could mostly avoid the one you didn't like. I crashed my way far enough into the airplane mode to get past the first race and it actually let me into the main game. I've about reached the limit of my driving and boating skills today though. I've done all the races that I'm good enough to advance beyond. In the end, it was a good day of entertainment.

Maybe in the future one of these download managers may help make it less painful till you have access to faster speeds Or a road trip to an internet cafe, airport or hotel with better speeds

Thanks... I wish there were a way to download to my phone while sipping on some caffeinated goodness but in this instance, it apparently has to be through their windows app and I can't see me lugging my tower into Starbucks or sitting in my car in the McDonald's parking lot with tower, monitor and keyboard running off a cigarette lighter inverter. LOL I bet the cops would be knocking on my window asking who I was trying to hack.
