Hi all,
I mostly play destiny 2 on PC and I used to game on an R9 390 without any issues. I now upgraded to a 1080Ti FTW3 DT version a week ago and the game keeps crashing on me with the error message - Graphics runtime detected a crash or loss of device. Error code - Broccoli. I scourged the game developer's website and it indicates that the issue is graphics related.

My PC config - i5 6500, 16GB RAM, ASUS H170 PRO GAMING Motherboard, EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 DT version

I have no overclocks on the GPU

I have tried several trouble shooting steps

1. Ran windows memory diagnostic tool - no errors reported
2. Update BIOS to latest version
3. Updated Nvidia Drivers to latest version - 417.71 (previously tried using a different stable driver version 399.24 known to work well with Destiny 2 and that did not fix the issue) (also tried updating drivers using DDU & safe mode)
4. Updated Audio drivers
5. Mild downclock of the GPU - (-100, -50) - did not resolve the issue - reverted back to default clock speeds (used MSI Afterburner)

The game crashes are very intermittent - It might crash in 5 min or it might crash after 30-60 min but it always crashes.

I am completely out of ideas here and I have no idea what is causing this. Please help!

    Hello srirvish,

    Welcome to the forums.

Just to better understand your issue, you mention that this happens when you play Destiny 2, does this happen with other games as well? are you using Precision X OC overlay during gaming?

Also, what resolution and refresh rate do you game at?

    Hi Gabriel!
To be honest, I don't have any other game installed at the moment. I do not have Precision X installed. I play at 2560x1440, I have a 144Hz monitor (ASUS MG279Q) and I play with Vsync off. The game generally hits 90+ frames at that resolutions (max settings)

Edit - I did play CS:GO briefly for like 30 min before uninstalling it. The game ran fine without any crashes!

I have this game and a decent overclock 2037mhz over 40C and what is a 100% stable GPU in every thing I do. But I've not fired it up since recent updates and I've only got maybe an hour into it. Is there any particular section of the game that does this? There's quite a few folks reporting the 'broccoli' error.  I would be curious if folks are wasting their time on their hardware, and need to blast Bungie to fix it.

Time to go for a max negative underclock on both the core & memory.

Destiny 2 did the same for me and no over game crashes. Use DDU to uninstall the Nvidia driver completely. The. Reinstall it and see if that helps. It did for me.

    Specs:-
    1900x at 4.1 GHz
32 GB ram Corsair vengeance white
    Airbus Gaming 7 x399
    2x EVGA 1070ti
    Gpu overclocks - +150 GPU, mem +550

    @HeavyHemi

That could be the case but I am not entirely sure since the crash reports windows event viewers sometimes gives me nvlddmkm errors which leads me to believe it might be the card! I might be wrong though but its the first time I've dabbled with event viewer. Here are the screenshots!

Edit - It does not happen at a specific instance. It can happen randomly at any instance :(

    Hi Sajin,

Max negative underclock? What would those clock speeds and be? I am willing to give it a shot. But severely downclocking a card to accommodate a game sounds very weird. Could it be the card?

    Hi Danteazazel,

I have tried using DDU to uninstall and re-install the drivers, that did not fix it! :(

Yep, it could very well be the card if max negative underclocks resolve the issue.

    Hi Sajin,

What would the max underclocks be. As in, what should I set the gpu clock and mem clock to? If it resolves the issue, I will contact you again maybe for an rma.

Drag the core & memory sliders as far to the left as they can go then click apply. Now retest.
