I have an EVGA GTX 580 Classified Ultra 3 Gb. card with a single fan. The fan has stopped working. It is free to rotate without power. I have tried getting it to spin with power on with no success. Is there any easy way to determine if it is the fan and not the fan controller. I have the Precision X software and set it to 100% but the fan will not spin even at high temperatures. Does anyone know the fan size? I have seen 65 mm and 80 mm. Would it be better to replace the fan or to get a replacement fan type.cooler? If anyone has a recommendation for a fan type cooler I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Bob.

Thanks. I m not sure what to do with it. Is there a way to determine if the fan controller is good and that it is only the fan. Bob.

No problem. The cable I linked allows you to power the gpu fan off a motherboard fan header. The only way to test for a faulty fan controller would be to connect another known good working fan to the video card, and to adjust its speed using precision.

OK. Thanks. Can I just monitor the output voltage on the fan connector on the MB? If so what voltage should I expect? I don't want to buy new fan only to find out that the MB controller is bad. Thanks, Bob.

Don't think so. I think you will only be able to see the rpm. If the fan is rated for more than 1 amp you shouldn't connect it to the motherboard header. You can see what the fan is rated at on the back of the fan.

Thanks. I do not have another fan. Can't I just monitor the fan voltage coming out of the MB with a voltmeter set on DC? Doesn't the Precision X just program the fan voltage? I want to make sure it's the fan and not the MB. I could also check for continuity on the fan to make sure it is not open. Bob.

Does anyone know the exact fan size? I don't want to shutdown my system until I have a replacement fan

Thanks. It does look like what probably is in my 580. I need to know the exact size so I can order it and get it before I open the video card. I have seen some as 80 mm is the correct size but I have also seen 75 mm is correct size. EVGA is of no help. They don't even know what size the fan is. I really would like the model number of the exact fan so the mounting is the same in all respects. Bob.

Then you’ll have to take it apart to be sure...
It’s not as if you can use it without a fan anyway... unless you’re stressing it to silly levels by heating it up to the max.

Nicest GPU ever launched. Should be fixed, repaired, etc. I hate because vendors no own service to fix people parts if they are not in warranty any more. Some brands of electronic in house charge extremely low price for their customers for old products when warranty expire. But ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE I think they are not capable to replace damage capacitor on 500$ worth motherboard. They will try to force you on upgrade or not charge you 100$ Now fans not work, in some other situation will be RGB for some other GPU, etc... That sould be repaired.
