when we fired up the system from a cold boot and opened just MSI AfterBurner, we found the GPU to be idling at around 84C, which is again a tad too hot for our tastes. We relayed this information on to NVIDIA and they informed us that our dual monitor idle temp problem will be solved by another new VBIOS that will be released this week that will ramp up the fan speed starting in the 70s instead of the 80s. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1264/1/

Haha knew it...the guy who designed the initial profile probably got fired...or at the very least, got his ears checked. Oh well, probably too late, dmg is done and most sites won't go back and revise their findings. Should ease the minds of anyone who was actually interested in buying one though.

Doesn't this just mean that the cards will be louder if you are using a dual monitor setup?

I like how they actually tried cooking an egg on the sucker At least they diagnosed it now before it ships, so hopefully no customers will have to deal with an immediate BIOS flash

Well they said they would fix the fan profile but whats up with it idling at 84c?Fixing the fan speed to ramp up at 70c isnt fixing the idle.

chwisch87 Doesn't this just mean that the cards will be louder if you are using a dual monitor setup? Edit: Actually it looks like that's correct, he's referring to 70s and 80s as C, not fan duty %. So yes you would have more noise if the fans ramp up sooner, but that's probably unavoidable given Nvidia's cards need to run 1 at full clocks to drive 2 monitors even on GT200 cards.

This sucks, if it can't cook me food I may not reconsider buying it. I thought I was buying a grill and a GPU, would have been the best deal ever.

Let's try not to loose sight of the fact that this only occurs when running two monitors concurrenlty, otherwise it does not idle that hot.

I'm not really a fan of multi monitor set up, I'm more interested in 3d gaming but that itself is pretty expensive especially since I just shed 320 dollars on this Samsung 260HD

Nor am I BUT I use TV-Out every night and the GPU gets hot, esp in when heating is on in cold weather. I have set a 2D profile as low as I can using precision but It does not run that much cooler. I mean its not hot hot but it does not need be in this mode to run a TV IMO. Some claim its not in 2D Mode when this happens, it is actually still in 2D Mode but not the new Power Saving Mode thats like 300/600/100 on most 200 series.
