Hey guys! So as of most of you I've been pretty excited to upgrade my GPU for months now (I know). Still patiently looking, was primarily looking for a 3070 or 3080 upgrade but I decided at work on Thursday I'd sign up for the 3060 12G for laughs and surprisingly I'm pretty "close." My main question is, is it worth upgrading to the 3060 12G now? and resell then upgrade to a 3070/80 down the road? or just wait until a proper 3070/80 upgrade for that juicy boost? I'm still signed up for the queue for the 3070/80 and even the 3060 Ti and 3090 but I'm afraid it'll take quite some time for that to really pop up in my notifications since I didn't really sign up until November/December.
Here's my current setup for reference
R7 3700X
32GB DDR4 3200Mhz
EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
SeaSonic Fully Modular PowerPlus Gold 650W Power Supply
PG279QZ - Main Monitor
LG NANO85 49" - Secondary
So far most games run perfectly fine on my current GPU, only game that really gives my GPU a run for its money is Cyberpunk and I either have to tone down to 1080p or drastically lower settings for 1440p. I primarily try to play on 1440p (with high framerate depending on the game) as much as I can, there are times I'll play at 4K for some games (like RE2R). Just wanted to see what you guys think I should do.
Thanks!

Tbh if you are trying to play for high fps 1440P isnt the answer. 1080P. Even the 3080 doesnt scale well on 1440P. Depends on what else you are doing. The dlss could be worth it along with nvenc 2.0 if you stream. I do not think a 3060 is a good match for 1440P

My Setup
-ASUS PG259QN, XG248Q
-Lian Li 011 Dynamic
-MSI Z490 Meg Ace
-10900K 5.2GHZ

-Artic Freezer II 360MM
-16GB Viper 4400MHZ
-3080 TI Founders

-EVGA 750 P2

The 3060 is a nice upgrade path for the 1080. I had an ASRock 6800 for my new build but it crapped out on me. Been down for almost a month. I got in the 3060 queue Thursday right at 0900 and had an email to buy an hour later. A 3060 is on the way and will meet my needs. I'm also in line for the 3060 ti, the 3070, and the 3080. I'll bite if I get an email for the ti or 3070 before 16 April when queue prices go up. I can sell the 3060 for what I paid for it. The 3080 is too much card for me. Fortunately things are working well for you now so you can sit back and wait to see what what comes available.

I always follow the good word of gamer jesus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C-RoDtqdJ8&ab_channel=GamersNexus

Looks like 3060 sits between the 1080 and 1080Ti for rasterization performance, but with added ray-tracing on par with the 2070/super, and of course DLSS.  That's to say that you probably won't get more frames out of this card for that high refresh, but you will get higher (DLSS-ed) resolution at the same framerates, and some lightweight ray-tracing to boot.
It's not a huge upgrade, but it could be a very enjoyable one nonetheless, even if you're still in the market for something with more oomph down the line.

8086K / 3080 Hydro / 2x8GB T-Force Nighthawk 3600MHz / Samsung 870 Pro 500GB / Z370FTW / Super Flower Platinum SE 1000W / DG77 wall-mounted

the regular 3060 is not worth the upgrade being that its roughly the same as a 2060 super therefore not much better then a standard 1080 other than being newer. i would reccomend you try and get a 3060ti and up if you want an actual good performance upgrade. the 3060 because of todays market falls very short in terms of performance for a 60 class card and is even beaten out by amds 5700xt in many cases

not rly the 3060 would only be an upgrade in rtx performance but its essentially the same performance but less wattage. the 3070 would be the next step. 3060ti at a minimum. in some scinarios the 1080 in regular non rtx is 8% better then the 3060 so other than the vram its not even an upgrade. sure you can get what you paid for it and possibly more but thats only until these things are in stock and when that happens the resale is gonna tank hard because there will be tons on the market

Thanks for the replies, yeah this is obviously not gonna be a big jump but just want something to hold me over until I do eventually cop a 3070/80 realistically. I just didn't expect to be so close on the list so I wanted to ask this question specifically to see if it was worth the "new" bells and whistles like DLSS, HDMI 2.1 for G-sync compatibility on my TV and such and such. If anything when I do upgrade down the line I can just resell it at MSRP to someone who needs it or pass it down to my brother who is still rocking a GTX 1060. Not always looking to push 1440p100+ on every title I play, I'll settle for 60 fps if need be; or lower it to 1080p if I really need the extra frame rate. Don't really care too much about ray tracing but it would be cool to see it in action for some games like Cyberpunk and Tomb Raider down the line if I do mess around with it.
