Hi everyone, first post at this forum, For the past month or so I've been looking to buy the perfect gtx 1080. I've looked at the FTW edition, but then I saw all the issues people had with it regarding black screen and fan 100%. I don't care if they fixed it or not, I'm not going to buy the FTW anymore. People are having problems with RMA cards, and 'fixed' FTW's clock lower than the competition. Don't get me wrong; +-1950mhz is still super fast, but if I'm going to drop $800 on a GPU, I don't want compromises. Since yesterday the Classified was in stock in my country. It even costs $2 less than the FTW, but $35 more than the SC. I really like the card, but can't find any reviews online yet. So that's why I'm here, I want your experience's with the card. So; -Any coilwhine? -Overclock results? (I expect something in the 2050-2100Mhz range) -Known issues I have not yet stubled upon? -Can anyone link me to a review? (Already saw the video of Jay2cents) -Anything else that would be interesting to read/know before buying Thanks so much!

Not any reviews that I know of. If you do a forum search there is information in bits and pieces throughout. As an example, this gentlemen has a thread with both some highlights and some issues... http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2549889

I had one for a bit before I had to return it and help my dentist with her boat payment but it was a good gpu. The fans are surprisingly quiet even when you push it to the 60% mark. http://www.3dmark.com/spy/313505You can see the overclock there but it's always a silicon lottery with what you get. RGB does need to be managed through precision xoc and GeForce experience so keep that in mind.

Good card if you get a good one. For me it was a 50/50 chance to get a good one for some reason. Meaning how the chip would perform. No coil whine! It's huge as in very tall! Good lighting and prob the best air cooler I've tried.. though I'm going water cooling as its gets pretty unmanageable with 2 in sli.. need to keep fans at 100% and also a fan at both ends blowing in.
I was able to keep the tempt to mid to upper 50s mostly with fast fans with a single card at max overclocks.
Pascal is a gamble really.. every chip is different.

Ive had my classified go to a black screen and 100% fan like the FTW. I changed drivers versions and its only happened once since. Hoping mine was just a driver issue and not a sign of something to come. I have a very aggressive fan profile on it, card runs under load at 70c so it was not a temp shutdown. At least not a core temp, that backplate gets hot! so I might stick a small fan on it to help as well.
The biggest gripe about a 1080 is the SMP (single pass multi projection?) to help vr get great framerates is just vapor ware right now. If i would have known that i wouldn't have gotten this so soon.

Seriously? The black screen + 100% fan issue affects Classifieds too? This isn't a driver issue. Man, EVGA, what is going on with your cards.

Well i opened a support ticket after happening a few times. They said the classy is not effected by the same issue as FTW cards and to keep an eye out. So far a week has passed and it has not happened again. #fingerscrossed

The 1080 Classified looks awesome and seem to perform very well for most people. I got very unlucky though. Max OC that can run 1 loop of Heaven benchmark is +45Mhz on my 1080 Classified. +30Mhz and the card is unstable for gaming. So max stable OC benchmarking is 2000Mhz. If I leave everything at stock settings my card flattens out at 79-80C with peaks of 82C and with a max boost of 1911Mhz and an average power draw of 218W with spikes to 239W. Very dissapointed.

Using evga px oc?? Set it to allow 100% voltage and max out the sliders for power and temp. Set it to 100% fan and see what it defaults to and if it ever drops the clocks.
Makes sure to use the on screen display osd. Set it to show voltsge, temp and power limits. If any of those are hit it will show you a 1 and the clocks will drop.

Also the slave bios switch on the card (master/ln2."slave is ln2.. power off pc to swap the switch) will give you always on fan and the option of selecting up to +130% power in px oc.

Dear god, not the Classifieds as well... I hope you are just unlucky, but this news is bad, really bad. The problem with the Classified is that they have not yet been readily aviable to the masses, and they haven't been out so long. If there are problems with the cards, they are still under the radar. Guess we'll just have to wait before more complaints start to surface.

So far so good with the Classified, took the plunge. No BS 100% error yet. Haven't tinkered for long but so far my max stable OC in all of the 3dmark tests is 2101-2114mhz. Haven't tried any other benchmarks. I'm just enjoying playing some games rather than troubleshoot like I have for the past month with two FTW Hybrids. The nice thing is that the lowest my card downclocks due to voltage limit is from 2101 to 2076 with max temp of 66C while gaming. (Edit- prolonged gaming yielded 69 degrees and downclock to 2063mhz. Fine with me) With my RMA Hybrid my max was 2050 and throttled down to 2012 many times when gaming. Temps maxed with that card at 55-58 while gaming. I'm very impressed with the beefy cooling on the Classified. The fact that it is only about 10 degrees hotter than the Hybrid is amazing to me- at higher clocks. I think something was still not right with my Hybrid despite the apparent "fix." It stuttered at times in games and just ran surprisingly warm under load. Oh well. AHowes I haven't had any of the issues you've experienced (yet!) with frequently hitting the power/temp/voltage limits. There's no major downclocking thus far when at the voltage limit (max has been 25-38 mhz per above).

But there was only 20 numbers off for the first 2.. oldest was great the other not.. then the 3rd was about 2 hundred higher then the first and was just as bad. Then the 4th was only 7 higher then the 3rd and was good like the first.

Amazing that you went through as many cards as you did per your thread from before. MC didn't give you a hard time with all the exchanges or flag you? The 1080 Hybrid is only the 2nd card I've ever had to return or exchange. Prior to that was a 780 or Ti, can't remember, with ACX cooler that suffered from rattling fins. Glad you finally resolved your issue.

no problem with my classified, I'm also surprised if you did get the black screen 100% fans as the FTW and classified have different pcb layout`s . Lets hope it was just a hardlock due to the driver/game being at fault. You could test the error by running heaven benchmark or skydiver on 3dmark.

Nope.. no probs. Exchanged the zotac amp cause they ran way too hot with 1 slot spacing in sli. Told them that.. 82c. I was exchanging for 2 pny fe edition cards that run cooler in sli with blower fans. Then I exchanged those with 2 evga fe cards and ek water blocks for them. Told them I found out pny just changed there policy to no water cooling and I know evga is fine with it.. no problem. Then I returned them (never using the water blocks) as I changed my mind going with 2 hybrid ftw cards. No problem.. then buying the classifieds soon afterwards cause of the black screen 100% fan issue with the ftw cards. The 2 classifieds was the only cards I exchanged at mc that I felt were bad with chips that would not perform without the issue of always having voltage limit 1 on at defaults.. even in debug mode and no boost 3.0 runing. Even under clocked -200 (1600). Those were sent back to evga. Yeah I guess there all mostly cool about it.Slap a clearance sticker on the cards and sell them as open box. And I know whoever gets the cards would be very happy. Honestly they pretty much all know who I am there by now I've been there like every other day either buying something or exchanging something for the new build. Just yesterday I was there exchanging my asus maximus vii formula mb (unused, not touched) for a cheaper asus maximus VII alpha mb and I told him as much 2 times but he still slapped a clearance tag on it! Haha.

That's the new boost 3.0. It will allow cards to go higher (depending on the chip). 2025 is the max boost clock I've seen for 1080s out of the box.

Hi, also my first post at this forum, Just got my Classified a few days ago, and no problems what so ever. After drivers installation and monitors configuration (Asus ROG Strix PG348Q and Samsung PX2370), just stress it with Heaven Benchmark, and at default (out of the box) I get GPU clock 2025 MHz, Memory Clock 5005 MHz, and running at 58/60 degrees.

Just did much more testing and tweaking with 3dmark and Heaven and a bit of FurMark. My max stable OC is 2114mhz core clock (+90 offset) and 10,400mhz on memory (+200 memory offset). In benchmark loops it occasionally dips down to 2075mhz (Heaven) and 2088mhz (3dmark), and gaming lowest I've seen is 2063mhz. Max temp I've ever seen is 70C unless I run FurMark, which even caused my Hybrid to throttle massively down to 1780-1900mhz. FurMark Core Burner shreds your GPU and I don't really run FurMark GPU Burner test for long periods of time, it can't be good for the card. AHowes, there's no way your card will stay at 2160mhz running Core Burner at 1440p! Color me very impressed if that's not the case. Pics or it didn't happen if so . And most important, no BS100% so far. Also no coil whine at all on my card or any other fan issues.

Haha if I remember tonight I'll give it a shot and see! 2164mhz.. Wouldn't surprise me any if it sticks at 2164. There special cards. If it does cook no biggy. Water blocks will help.

I set my OSD as above stated, what is voltage limit 1? I do see that way playing FO4 and a few other games.

Did you change get the settings of your osd to show voltsge limit to on screen and temp limit and power limit? Set those all up to show up on your precision X oc or msi afterburner on screen display.. if one of those trigger during load it will show a 1 insted of 0.

I did turn on voltage limit and power limit in the osd. Looks like i did not do temp limit, however my temps are 70c and below. Everything starts at 0 for the limits a bit in i see the voltage limit turn to 1. looks like gpu voltage osd is 1.044V

Could be needing more voltage at whatever boost clock it was doing to sustain it over whatever period or just the high heat made it trip. Try a more aggressive fan curve if ya want to experiment. Or just select manual fan mode while testing and see how it goes at 75-85% fan speed.
Also on the left there a voltage lever. Raising it to 100% just means your allowing the card to use its max allowed voltage if needed. Which for the 1080 is 1.094v.

That's really unfortunate news. I haven't had any issues with my Classified yet. Less than a week with the card though. You should RMA it. If I end up getting the 100%BS issue though I will be done with EVGA cards for a long time.
