Hello,

I recently purchased a GTX 1050 Ti SC GAMING card. This was my first video card purchase in nearly 10 years, so I haven't kept up to date on the "ins and outs" of modern hardware.

This card was purchased to use in a PC circa early 2011. The motherboard does not have UEFI boot support; it has some early UEFI version used only for hardware diagnostics.

Is there any way to get the card to work with legacy boot? When Windows 10 boots to the desktop I just get a black screen with the mouse cursor and I was told this is because of the UEFI requirements of the vBIOS.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do you experience the same black screen when using other outputs on the video card? Have you tried performing a clean install (#2) of the latest graphics drivers to see if it helps resolve the issue?

Yes, it was a clean install of 376.33. No other drivers or video cards have ever been installed on the system. I have already tried to re-install using DDU first.

I can't use the other outputs, the display only has HDMI.

I should also mention that video outputs fine from the motherboards HDMI via the Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Sandy-Bridge i7).

I'm fairly certain at this point that the problem is the vBIOS only supporting UEFI boot. GPU-Z says the vBIOS requires UEFI (can only run GPU-Z with the drivers uninstalled). I'm just hoping there is some way around this problem or I will be forced to return the card. It would have been nice if UEFI was mentioned in the system requirement specs; I probably wouldn't have bought it to begin with.

    Thank you for the reply.

I don't think the vbios is the issue here. I'd try using a dp to hdmi adapter to see if you encounter the same issue. What motherboard do you have?

The motherboard is an IPISB-CH2(Chicago) out of an HP pre-built machine (not sure of the model number). I just found this quote from an HP support post...

"The "Chicago" motherboard will not support the NVIDIA 9xx series graphics cards with some exceptions.  The exceptions being if the graphics card manufacturer will supply you with a replacement NVIDIA 9xx card that contains a different video BIOS."

I've also read that another graphics card manufacturer used to provide Legacy vBIOS upon request for newer cards with UEFI only vBIOS. If I contact support through the ticket system is that something they could do for me?

Possibly. I'd recommend calling for a faster response... http://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

you should not be trying to put a modern "gaming" gpu in a 6 year old  oem system in the first place. the rest of that old oem system is almost certainly inadequate for modern gaming. and the 1050 ti may be a low wattage card but it can still be a problem for some cheap psus. at best that pre built HP came with a very cheap 300 watt psu that only is rated for 19 amps on the 12 v at an unrealistic 25 C. bottom line is even when brand new that psu could only supply about 160 to 170 watts max on the 12 v line in realistic conditions. after years of use that cheap psu would be lucky to provide 130-140 watts max on the 12 v which is where nearly 95% of your power needs to come from in a modern pc.

I didn't say I was using a pre-built PC, I said I was using the motherboard from one. The power supply I have is perfectly adequate and the i7 isn't going to bottleneck.

Was this every resolved. I had same problem an HP said same thing about vbios. Everything else about the machine works fine . I was told ,"The 1050Ti is not compatible with your motherboard because it requires UEFI. HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012. The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI. I suggest that you contact EVGA's Tech Support (1-888-881-3842) to see if they have a VBIOS update that will allow the card to work with a Legacy BIOS."
