Hello,
My EVGA cards work fine with the latest drivers in the secondary (black) PCIe x16 slot of my Dell Precision T3500, but not in the primary (blue) PCIe x16 slot (Dell motherboard 09KPNV with the latest BIOS A17). The pins in the blue slot look fine, but Windows 10 Pro x64 freezes in the middle of boot-up with continuous beep when the graphics card is in the blue slot. I am not sure if it has to do anything with the UEFI (I do not have any UEFI related info for cards or BIOS), but why would it work in the secondary slot, and not in primary slot.
Please help.

Thanks!

Defective slot.

I had AMD Radeon R7 200 working fine in the blue slot right before upgrading to GeForce GTX 1050 TI. I am confident that if I put the AMD card back into the blue slot it will boot up just fine.

Do you have any info about UEFI support on GeForce GTX 10 series?

I agree with Sajin but check the BIOs and make absolutely sure there is not any setting made to disable the main PCI-E slot. To verify this you could reset the BIOs back to default.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

If the main PCIe x16 slot was disabled the AMD card would not work, and I would not get Windows logo on GTX 1050 or 1060 either, would I?

Any info on UEFI and GTX 10 series?

For instance, I found the article below, but not sure if it applies to GTX 10 series, and if it matters which slot, primary or secondary, is being used.

UEFI isn't the problem. The 1050 Ti does support UEFI.

Thanks. I will check the BIOS, and see what I can find out.

I think if the PCIe controller was bad, the second slot would not work either, and I do not see any visible damage to the blue slot or its pins, so, it is a mystery to me.

Could it be more of the 1050 not supporting legacy bios as that Dell Mobo is quite old and is not on uefi

Good point. Does GTX 1050 or 1060 support legacy BIOS?

I will try the steps below and see if I have and can get into UEFI Settings.

pretty sure those steps may work even if it just an old legacy bios. I have a similar pre built with a xeon 3550 chip and it only has a legacy bios. I belive it uses the same a17 bios. i am surpised a 1050 works in it .a lot of times adding newer gpus in old mobos like that is a hit or miss

Both the 1050 Ti & 1060 have support for UEFI & Legacy.

Good to know. Thank you.
UEFI issues are ruled out then...

Re: GTX 1050 TI 4GB and 1060 SC Gaming 6GB on Dell Precision T3500 2017/10/21 11:42:41 (permalink)
This is strange.

I left GTX 1060 in the black PCIe x16 slot and added GTX 1050 Ti to the primary blue PCIe x16 slot and Windows did boot up fine. It did not recognize and auto-install the drivers for GTX 1050, but I successfully installed them manually.

So, adding GTX 1050 or 1060 to primary PCIe x16 slot (blue slot) does not work, but secondary PCIe x16 black slot works fine, and having graphics cards in both slots works fine too.
Any ideas how this is possible?

Another question I have is about the GPU temperatures and fan speeds. As the two graphics cards sit pretty tight to each other, the GTX 1050 Ti gets over 90 degC, but strangely the fun speed does not go over 75% according to Precision XOC. When I switch the fan to manual control and take it to 100% the GPU temperature goes down to 85 degC. So, the question is why the fan being on auto-control does not auto-increase the speed to cool off the GPU? Or is 90-92 degC is normal for GTX 1050 Ti?

Max allowed temp for a 1050 is 97c. The reason the fan doesn't go to 100% is because the fan profile is setup to prioritize noise over temps.

So, in fan auto-control mode the EVGA card will allow the GPU to fry in silence and hang the system? Or will it eventually bring the fan speed up to save the GPU?

Fan should speed up to max speed when the max allowed temp is hit.
