I've never used Fah Tracker. I just setup the clients myself.

I'm using Afterburner to set the clocks and fan speed. I move the fan speed to like 85% and click apply, but it doesn't apply right when I click it. About 2 or 3 seconds latter I hear the fan speed up, but if I open Afterburner again it kicks the fan speed back down and I have to set it again on the GTS 450 only.

Maybe Afterburner is reporting it wrong to me? I do hear the fan speed up.

EDIT: She made it through two wu's, bumping the clock speed up to 950/1900.

Got my GTS 450 SC in today. I set the clock speeds to 925/1850 and started a wu. I got the card from newegg for $114.99 with free shipping, that price includes a $20 MIR. Looks pretty sweet so far.

That is crap!  I just bought mine the other day at the Egg and it cost me 139.99.  "I hate my life!"

Re:GTS 450 for folding 2010/09/23 03:01:41 (permalink)
OK, I got up extra early
Updated bios- no change

uninstalled drivers/sweep/ installed 260 version drivers- no change

installed SLI connector ( I know its not needed) disabled SLI and monitored GPU usage- no change

went in to NVP made sure CUDA was set to all, single monitor, adaptive OFF- no change

Folder config:
 Motherboard: MSI NF750-G55
4 gigs ddr3 1333 Corsair
Athlon x3 445 ( stock clock 3.1 until I figure this out)
2X EVGA GTS450- model# 01G-P3-1450-TR 822/1645/1804
BIOS version for both GPUS: 70.06.13.00.52

Fans will not go to 100% in either Precision or Afterburner shows limit in BOTH programs 70%

GPU usage on EITHER GPU max 70%, prior to installing these I was folding on a GTX275 and a GTX280- BOTH would run 99% W/SMP running too.

I have tried every tag in the configuration of F@H

Im at a loss here.........

Edits are more info as I think of it....little cloudy this AM with lack of sleep

I´m at a loss here as well.
Just throwing out some ideas
Is it possible that the fans are locked at 70% max, just like the pre FPB 460s?
Are the gpus going into full 3d mode?

That is what Im thinking as far as fans go.

I dont know about the 3d (how do you check it)

I ran kombuster on 1 450, it WILL go to 100% usage when stress testing. DX11 during test.

OK I got to get to work...back after 8hrs (or so) Thanks for the ideas though folks ! Im still
about these...havent even thought about registering until I get this solved...got 30 days!!!

The only way you can check are the core and shader clocks, whether they´re running at full 3d clocks or below

Ok.. murphy paid me a visit on one of my 275's (bad fan bearing on a NON-EVGA card. I should have known better!) so I bit the bullet and ordered this 450: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130573

Putting it in a new rig. Hope it's all you guys have been saying in this thread! It's my first Fermi. Up until now I had no reason to switch as the 275's are nice and solid and the PPD was equivalent of the Fermi card price-wise. However, these 450's seem worth it. I'm not getting rid of the other 275's just yet though.. they still pump out great, steady points!

Hah! just edited my post then saw yours!...I added that I'm not getting rid of the other 275's I have  just yet!! Good for you my friend..
How do you like 460's so far? How's the PPD on them?

They´ve been only running for 24h yet. So far I them
It´s the 460 EE SCs and I replaced my 275s to get the power draw down.
At their stock factory OC  I´m getting ~13k. A gain of almost 4k ppd per card at a much lower power draw is nothing to snooze at.

The only annoying thing is the comparatively loud fan. At 60% its almost as loud as the one on my 275s at 80%

I'm looking forward to replacing two 9800GTX+'s and possibly three 8800GT's for a couple of 450's for that very reason, power consumption.

 Rig2: EVGA 780i FTW | Q9650@3.00GHz | CORSAIR HX1050W | 3x GTX460SSC+ | 4 clients

I replaced a GTX 285 with this little GTS 450 SC and it's laying the spank down on the GTX 285 in PPD, plus the lower power usage = WIN.

Right now I have my GTS 450 SC clocked at 950/1900 and it went through the night folding without a problem. Temp on the card has not gone over 55c.

PLEASE EVGA come out with a Single Slot 450.... Please....

You know the Single Slot version will have killer sales in both folding farms and HTPC installs

howdy2u2, you may have a bad card, problem is, if it's only screwing up on F@H but works fine with Windows, Games, 2D & 3D applications, then you may not have any replacement options with the card...

Have you checked the cards BIOS version to make sure it's the latest available?

RE 450 clocks...  This review http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=1080&page=16 shows the Palit Sonic Platinum hitting 990 and the same site shows the ASUS TOP hitting 1090 http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=1068&page=18

Screen shot, Ignore GPU 1 its not running anything although it is also a 450.

Its clocking up like its supposed to but the GPU usage and fan are locked @ 70%.

SM-71, Id try a game or something but this is strictly a purpose built folder, only games on here are what ever came with Win7

Edited 9/23/10  7:55pm CST

Well Im giving up on the 450s NTACs but I have tried everything possible to get these to fold 100% but they wont. Ive tried them separately, in SLI, out of SLI, GPU slot 1 gpu slot 2,  loaded drivers, cleaned out drivers, reloaded drivers, deleted anything to do with F@H, reloaded F@H, reinstalled F@H, updated BIOS, changed settings in BIOS so much that I had to clear CMOS several times. overclocked, underclocked, changed voltages, tried afterburner, tried precision
I even called EVGA tech support, fans are locked at 70% because they need not go higher? Cant explain why F@H only uses 70% on 1 GPU and 38% on the other, but OC scanner and Kombuster will force them to 100%
So basically I guess I just got hyped about a more efficient card with a better PPD and got toasted. So until I figure out a solution my dedicated folder is down for the count. I have no ambition to reinstall the 275 and 280 and set them up again (not that its hard to do) Sorry Team I just had an epic fail.

OUCH! That's what my 260s do! >_<  On a nicer note, got my 450 FTW in today. I tried OCing it past 960MHz, but it just wont stay stable even maxing voltage with MSI Afterburner (1.162 volts). So, 1.124V stock @920MHz, running 1.145V @960MHz. Folding my first WU at 55 degrees C (OCscanner would run 67C max) Project 11226 getting 14867.3 PPD. That's sick...my 480s @775MHz only get 15500PPD (Project 10632).

So. If this trend keeps up, I think I'm going all in for a bunch of 450s to fold on!

Yeah I would hold off on those GTS 450's if we lose the -advmethods number in folding 14k+ PPD.

I thought these cards were supposed to get no less then 9k PPD even with the P10632 clocked at 920Mhz core?

Sending my 450s back to place of purchase, looks like my dedicated folder has lived a short life until November. Looks like a 275 and 280 breathe fire then.

Just a guess, but every project might have different performance values. Sometimes my 480s get a WU that only reports 14500 PPD, others 15447, others 15997.

But a drop to 50%? Are you SURE it's not running at 2D clocks? Unstable OCs can cause the driver to stop responding why you are AFK, and drop you back to 2D. If that is the case, maybe ambient temperatures increased enough to cause this?

I'm sorry to hear that. My only guess is that the motherboard isn't fully working with those 450s... Yet that is just a guess.

Unless... Are you positive that you downloaded GPU3 and not GPU2? http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14671 I use Vista console for stability and ease of adding -gpu 0 and -gpu 1.

Running full tilt 950Mhz core clock with 99% gpu usage. I even stopped my clients, rebooted system and reset my overclock.

It got done with that wu and now has a P10950 and kicking 14,530 PPD.

Bah... It sounds like there is still a LOT of room for optimization then.

EDIT: When in 2D mode and running a GPU client, it will show 99% utilization. At least it does for my 260s running the GPU3 client with core 11.
