hi guys. Ive got a bit of an issue. Just went to turn my PC on (has been working fine for months) and today when i turned it on, the GPU (780ti) fan went up to max speed but no image appeared on the screen. I've tried re-seating the GPU, checked all plugs are firmly in place and currently the only way to get a signal through to the screen is to remove the GPU completely and run from the mobo directly. I havent changed any drivers or updated bios recently so im not sure what could be causing the issue. Ive tried googling and have seen people suggesting power supplies are insufficient but most of the people with that issue are atleast getting a signal before crashing. It seems that everything boots correctly and goes into windows but i cant be sure because i have no monitor signal. Ive had this set up for a year now with no change so im assuming something has gone belly up weather its a psu or gpu? My PSU is a coolermaster 850Watt silent pro. UPDATE1: ive just updated my mobo bios, and the issue is still there. I have tried the GPU in the PCI-e slot where it normally is and running the monitor through onboard graphics which works but I cant open evga precision to see what the fans are doing because an error saying graphics display wrapper was not recognized. is there any chance the PSU could be the issue? also, when i run the speccy app, it dosent recognize there to be a GPU installed other than the on board graphics. Currently i have taken the GPU out of the system for fear or any damage and the noise is insanely loud.

Are you sure everything is right with PCI-E cables? Can you tried others. Can be PSU and Graphic card. Example if only one power cable is not connect tight to graphic card to click symptoms could be same, no signal, GPU fan on 100%. My first step would be to check that and try my card in other PC with strong PSU. On that way I could better to prevent someones graphic from burning if my PSU is not OK. If symptoms are same in other PC(no signal and fan speed on MAX), than other graphic in my PC to confirm bad graphic card. If graphic card work in other PC, than last thing, borrow PSU for one moment to confirm PCI-E slots on motherboard are OK. Because of that always in house two power supplies not older than 5 years, two graphic cards not older than 5 years and second memory kit and little device for OS if situation allow But first 2 necessary.

thanks for the advice. ive tried different PCI-E power cables and tried them in different ports on the PSU. Would there be benefit in trying to card in another PCI-E port on the mother board?

Yes.
For troubleshooting of course this is recommended but if you use another slot you will only see an image on the screen appear when Windows boots. The primary slot allows you to see the BIOs loading and others do not.

my GTX 570 I had in the past did that before, Black screen with fans maxed out, I garantee its a bad card. and yes using a second computer is a great way to troubleshoot bad components, I got one specificly just for that use when I need it.

Just got back from a mates place where we tried the card in his system, and it did the same issue. his system is very similar to mine only with a 750watt psu and a 3770k cpu and gtx680. I also tried the card in the second PCI-e slot on my mother board and the issue was there as well. Looks like i will going through the warranty process. my question is, would it be best to try and do it through the retailer i brought the card from (im in australia, and so was the retailer) or is it best to go directly through EVGA support which will mean shipping the card over seas i believe as they do not have an australian centre that i know of. Im also aware that due to this time of year the process will most likely be a slow one :(

I doubt it will slow the RMA process. Everyone is buying brand new, and giving them away in a few weeks. the "Bad" batches should come after the New Year. I would set up a Support Ticket, and get the RMA started now, as it sounds like the card went belly up unfortunately. Let me ask this though, do you have a back plate on? If so, can you take it off and verify nothing made it's way in between the backplate and the card. If no backplate, could you take a clean, dry toothbrush, and wipe down the back of the card gently to make sure something isn't causing contact in between the connections on the back of the card. Hopefully everything goes smooth and you are able to get it back online pretty quick. EVGA's RMA service is actually fairly nice.

Yep, any kind. I use one all the time to clear the dust away while working on my stuff, and doing standard maintenance. Works great, and can push any debris away with a super light touch. I don't even put pressure on it, just hold it natural basically.

Id love one of them however i believe to get them to work in australia you need to modify them somehow then they just loose their power. If i could find something similar in australia id be so happy!

no you don't have to modify the unit, just get a 240/220v aus to 120/110v US converter to plug it into.

Hi Fellow EVGA fans Please let me know if I have to make a new thread or not - I'm new to this forum. I'm from South Africa and use a different forum unique to South Africa *Link: My friend got similar issues with a EVGA GTX 780Ti SC. It will boot with 100% fan speed and no video signal. The problem is that we already tried to RMA it but the EVGA supplier refuse to send it of or to look at the card because there are two screws missing that is required to secure the fan-shroud to the cooler of the card (I initially thought that EVGA are one of the brands that do allow their card owners to do maintenance on the card and now the card is potentially flagged with the warranty voided because of those two missing screws on the fan-shroud) This can't possible impact the card negatively in any way. The only thing I tried so far is to test the card in my rig and it gives the same problem. I haven't tried the toothbrush method as mentioned above, will it help if I take the card apart and re-seat it? Will baking the card perhaps help? Do you have any suggestions? Here's a link to my thread on Carbonite Tech Classifieds South Africa where I'm currently trying to solve this problem. *Link: Thanks *Looks like my links dont get posted after I have copy and pasted the links in...
