I feel like I'm all by myself when it comes to this question. I purchased a 1080ti FTW3 its obvious it has G-Sync. my question to the community is, Does it really matter if I get a Freesync monitor with a high refresh such as 144 165 Hz with a 1ms response time rather than spend close to $800 on a G-Sync. Is it truly worth it ?

Yes.. yes and yes. I own both a Asus 144hz 24" 1080 screen and a 27" Asus 165hz 1440 g-sync screen and there's a big freaking difference and you'll be laughing the whole first day of playing on it as you might of skipped g-sync.

0 screen tear and butter smooth frame rate.. once you use a g-sync monitor.. There's no going back.

Let me add that I was once attracted to the dark side and bought up a 4k monitor.. 60hz no g-sync. 8 months later I wonder why I'm never gaming on the thing?

Now I'm drooling over a 34-35" ultra wide screen g-sync monitor. Haha

Come on wife!! Say yes please!! Tax money coming.. why not?

Sure to get murdered as soon as the words exit my mouth. :(

I'll pick one up personally.. when its more affordable. Answer to it tho is absolutely worth it to buy a g.sync monitor versus freesync. Theres a reason why AMD has Freesync 2.. and because they went the same route as nVidia did with locking down specs and adding their own processor.

My son (almost 9 now) has my Asus 27" 165hz 1440 gsync monitor now and i remember him booting up bf1 on it and telling him i upgraded his system from the 980sli to the 1080 and going.. wow! Look at the smooth grapbics while he was playing.. this is after many months of me playing on my 4k monitor.

You get spoiled with g-sync and forget how awesome it is till you use something else for a while.

1ms response is probably a TN panel @ 1080p, if so G-sync may be your friend? Realistically, it's gonna depend on which games you're playing. I'm using a Titan Xp on an Asus MG279Q (freesync) with no problems so check with folks using the same games/apps because your mileage WILL vary.

I personally prefer 240Hz with no Gsync. You really do not need Gsync with 240Hz.

If you're happy with it, then that's what matters. I'm a casual leather recliner gamer. So I've got the 50" Sammy 4K ~23ms it does the trick for now and of course I wouldn't suggest anyone use it for competitive shooters...but if you just like glorious bits of ectoplasm  burning out your corneas in Doom...there you go. I can't wait until we get 120hz or better standard at that size. At some point the lines are going to get blurred between TV's and monitors if not already. Except for the top end monitors...it is basically a TV sans tuner.

High refresh rate displays actually are worse if you don't have gsync because you'll constantly have frame variation and thus tearing. Gsync is so worth it. Once you see it in action you won't ever want to play games without it. For PC gaming it's probably the best legit hardware upgrade in a good decade at least.

The truth is G-Sync would be great but it's one of those things you won't know what you are missing as you have never had it.

Not really, I play CSGO at 300 FPS and thus outside of the GSync range, on a 165 Hz GSync monitor. The tearing is nothing compared to tearing on a 60 Hz display.

It's a misprint if it says the Dell is IPS. The Dell S217DG is TN. The giveaway is 1 ms, that doesn't exist with IPS. It would be a miracle to get 144 Hz IPS for anything close to $399. Regarding that monitor, I've owned one, but I returned it - the colors are massively washed out and requires quite a bit of calibration to get anything good out of it, plus a lot of people report really bad color banding on the newer revisions. No need to apologize, I just wanted to make sure you knew before purchasing. That would have not been a fun time for you! Dell makes a 24 inch variant which has reportedly much better color and gamma out of the box. https://www.amazon.com/De...1&keywords=s2416dg  I'm not really a fan of QHD at 24 inches cause everything is tiny to me, but some people like the higher PPI.

I did not go G-sync because of cost and lack of selection for what I wanted. I have a Samsung C32HG70 (2560x1440 144hz 32" VA panel freesync) paired with a GTX 1080 and I couldn't be happier. But that's my personal preference. Most games I play hit 144 fps with no issue using v-sync. That being said everyone has their own preferences. Good luck!

    Asus PG279q its $689 compared to the Dell 2716DG @ $400

They're not even comparable. The PG279Q is IPS and will destroy the Dell in terms of color accuracy and not have color shift at angles like TN panels do.

    i guess what I'm asking is would you sacrifice 1ms 144hz G-Sync $400 for an IPS 5ms 165hz G-Sync with the price tag of $780 ?

Not for $780, I've seen it a bit lower than that. Acer has made the XB271HU which uses the exact same panel as the ASUS and it costs a bit less and would be the better option IMO: https://www.newegg.com/Pr..._-24-106-004-_-Product

Ok so now I decided to back burn the TN Panle for a IPS. It's either going to to be 1of 2 Acer XB271HU, Asus PG279Q
Both are the exact same panel OBM is better on the Asus but no speakers, OBM on the Acer a little confusing but on board speakers...why can't this decision be easy, LOL

So which should I with the Asus or the Predator, all honesty set aside I really love the 1ms refresh at 144 Hz bit picture is ok for a TN, Then the IPS 5ms 165Hz picture is better for pictures, video, editing and other features but I'm just want to use it for gaming do have the money for either it's just a a really tough decision.
