EA announced last week its new Origin Access Premier program, which launches today and introduces a new access tier which provides unlimited access to imminent-launch games five days before the official release. This program will cost £14.99/$14.99 a month or £89.99/$99.99 a year. Alongside this launch, EA has decided to axe the freebie On the House initiative.

That's a bummer, though out of the 10 or so games I got for free through it, I only ever installed and played one.

Personally I would like to have seen EA sell old games cheaply and donate part of the profits to children's charities.

I've never played any of their "On the House Games." They're usually so old that I've already played them, or they're just the sort of game no one plays in the first place. The only freebies I've ever made use of from Origin are the Battlefield 4 map packs.

It's the same idea used behind manufacturer GPU game bundles. Give away the core product and bleed them on DLCs. Carrot and stick method of revenue generation.
